Profession of your N?

One of the things I was thinking about was ...
I read in so many places they are like a 5 year old. But I guess I wonder how is it they are able to achieve academic and professional success?
He is in med school right now and I have no idea how a abusive immature destructive piece of crap could have any empathy for patients and want to help others? I wonder if he will actually make it as a doctor ...
I was wondering what profession's were your N in and were they successful outside of your relationships?

Well..........

Mine had his own busines when we first met. But lost it in his divorce. He really has not worked a steady job in 5 years. He did not want to work cuz God forbid he should have to pay his Ex child support--he is already paying her a whole $60 a week for 2 kids--there is just NO way he could make it if he had to pay her more. HE IS SUCH AN ASS !! Then he said that he is 40 and it is time for him to retire ?!?!?!?! Well, my dad is 70 and retired and now has his own business, but I guess in the N's mind, he has paid his dues to society. Then he takes an online course for like 4 weeks and thinks that because of that, he has a degree and should be getting high pay !! Uhm....well not exactly. So, I got the honor of taking care of him and now his new source is also unemployed living off of government handouts. Sound like the perfect match, don't they ?? And they are both convicted felons !! HAHAHAHA won't they both live happily ever after ?? LOSERS !!

Law student

I think Law appeals to Ns because it does give them a lot of NS. Also, Ns are attracted to possessions and being a Lawyer does give them the resources to attain flashy toys.

I will never again date another one. Three strikes man . . . three strikes . . . The Harvard guys are bad, but the ones who have an ego because they didn't get into Harvard are the worst.

WTF Lisa?

Pardon my french - but seriously, what is this drivel? You received this just after your divorce? No wonder you named your book, "All About Him." I am proud of you for getting out, moving on and educating others!! That takes strength and courage for sure. My narc is also positioned to have life time captive audience. I can't believe I didn't see it sooner. I had to laugh - one of his stories involves a time when he was just getting to know a new girlfriend and he was so excited to meet someone who would "listen" to him. I remember thinking, "Gee how great to meet a guy who actually talks." (thinking he would be a good communicator (NOT). I had no idea it would include total monopoly!! NancyM - agreed with every sentence in your post. I had a parallel experience. I'll tell you what, validation ROCKS!! Thanks ladies PS - I thought I was posting this after your e-mail post. Sorry!!

Awwe, thanks GIJ! Crazy, isnt' it? They will always ensure they have a captive audience. It is great to be validated, isn't it? And we can now take what we learned to help others. xoxo

Profession

I've been an RN for 20+ yrs, last 5 yrs . First husband, MD-mild traits. Second and current husband -MD-alot of narcissistic traits. XN-not college educated, manager/railroad-mostly all traits of a somatic narcissist. Reading WWLP-very interesting and extremely bothersome. It seems I can only read a few pages a day as it drains me emotionally and mentally. Not doing very well emotionally, somewhat depressed....

Profession

Now, that is a good question! My Narc never had a "real" profession, just those that he made up as he went along. These are the various things he called himself during our relationship: security expert sheriff airline pilot demolition expert construction engineer mining engineer machine operator and there were a few others! He would start to do something, and then drop it and start something else. He also lied about his education. it turns out he never finished high school. I must have wanted him to pull the wool over my eyes because I have a higher education and 3 degrees and a profession. Still do not know what I was thinking when I was with this loser. I am interested and impressed to see how many of these narcs held positions and were successful in their professions. Wow, this must have really gone to their heads. Mine was just a leach and touted how great he was at everything, while in fact he was a failure at everything he ever touched.

As a nurse, I obviously work with alot of doctors and I can tell you, many of them are narcs. Perfect postion for them and their God complex. My first N was uneducated.....so his abuse was more obvious....second one was a lawyer....more covert abuser.

Academia

My ex-psychopath is a professor at a private college in the Southwest. He went to college at his father's university (maybe so his parents could clean up after him);it took him 7 years to get his master's degree at UVA in Charlottesville;he got his Ph.D. at SUNY Buffalo. Basically, he spent FOURTEEN YEARS in school after graduating high school.

The timeline

It's more like it took him to graduate from college in 4 years (the normal way to go);but it took him SEVEN years to get a Master's, then 2 to get a Ph.D. My ex-P was a better student than a teacher, IMHO. His philosophical essays are lacking in originality. What once made my heart skip a beat now bores me to sleep (or makes me laugh, in its sheer shallowness, he makes stoned supermodels look and sound smart) My ex-P once said,"I'm not that good a philosopher. I'm not that smart." True that, true that!!! What's funny is that I had a high school English teacher who was a perpetual student. He jumped from university to university... yet he was a good teacher and anything BUT a psychopath. The good high school English teacher is also friends with Jon Krakauer, so we read the final chapters of "Into the Wild" before it hit the presses.

Sefl Employed

Mine has been self-employed for over 20 years. Loves to gloat that he's been able to maintain a business for that long. His business is in sales. When we were first married, I was so naive and found it very impressive that he could sell anything to anyone! Freezers to Eskimos! My son says that he's able to sell ketchup popsicles to women in white gloves! Sad but oh so true. He's told me many times that the reason he's been able to maintain the business for so long is that he's a chameleon and he knows what people want to hear. Then he went on to say, "how to you think I was able to get you to marry me?" What an a$$!! Truth be told, I'm waiting for criminal charges to be pressed against him. Recently found out that he owes hundreds of thousands of dollars and no longer has the money to purchase the products that have been paid for! He's borrowed money from me (my 401K), my parents, his parents, etc. and never even mentions that he owes money. As far as his clients? He excuses that away because it's not like he did it on purpose. "My intentions were good, it just didn't turn out like I planned, I had to use the money they paid me for goods to keep the business going." What a f*cking troll!!!

Mine lied about having a degree...

He called himself a mechanical engineer, I found out he was actually fired from a Tier 1 supplier, though I don't know the reason. He doesn't have a degree, yet told me he was hired as an engineer for Chrysler...that's not possible, since the big 3 does not hire non-degreed engineers!
