PTSS vs. PTSD
I remember that what we now call Post Traumatic Stress Disorder used to be called Post Traumatic Stress Syndrome. I like the term Syndrome better than Disorder. Disorder seems to imply that we are somehow responsible for the behavior...as if we are purposely acting crazy-like.
After all, the term personality disorder carries with it an implied rebelliousness or defiant behavior. I am NOT pushing a self-serving agenda when I break down and start sobbing or when I shake uncontrollably or when I am in a foglike condition for days on end or when I scream at my son and then immediately feel like a rotten mother.
Does anyone know why the name was changed from Syndrome to Disorder?
Please share any of your Post Traumatic Stress symptoms.
