Toxic Parents

I'm reading Toxic Parents by Susan Forward now. I'll add quotes as I read them that I'm finding helpful.

My new quest is to understand BPD because my mom has this disorder. And as painful as the narc relationship was, it was a symptom of a much bigger issue with me which all stems back to being raised by a PDd parent.

Anyway - here's the first quote. It applies to both my BP relationship with my mother and my ExN.

"When you are strugging to reconstruct the truth of your past, especially when the truth reflects poorly on them, your parents may insist that 'it wasn't so bad,' 'it didn't happen that way,' or even that 'it didn't happend at all.' Such statements can frustrate your attempts to reconstruct your personal history, leading you to question your own impressions and memories. They undercut your confidence in your ability to perceive reality, making it that much harder to rebuild your self-esteem."

I just added this to the new forum as well under my open jam topic about books that have been helpful to me.
