Statistics

Ok, I have found this "It is estimated that 0.7-1% of the general population suffer from NPD" http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/29808.php

LoL how lucky we have been to pick this 1 out of 100 men!

Current data supports the

Current data supports the idea that 1 in 4 college age individuals suffer from this illness. They have seen a dramatic rise in the numbers. This is just one study. Taking into account that MOST narcissist go undiagnosed I would say that it is virtually impossible to get a true and accurate reading. If i even took a guess in the dark I would believe it would be closer to 1/4 of our population. Again taking into account the new "ME" generation where narcissism is not only acceptable but actually considered a positive personality trait. only one way to go...Forward (tm?)

Oh what a lucky fella....

The ex-Psych professor went into education to get a steady dose of NS. Now all he gets are Narc-y students who'd rather be Tweeting, posting Facebook updates, and listening to music on their iPhones while texting than listening to his "Words of Wisdom." He complained about how students didn't respect him back in the day... Wonder how they're "respecting" him now? LOL....

I have often wondered if this is not some sort of evolution for the world ahead, survival of the fittest. It is robotics which is driving the future world and what do robots not have? Heart nor soul. almostlydia

Betty, your current data...

I work at a University and I have close student contact at times. I never read statistics but personally, I see PDI's (college students) everyday. Before I read Lisa's book, I couldn't pinpoint what was wrong with this generation?? So what does this mean when we are retired? I had to wonder that because someone who just signed in as having a "SOAR throat" (no lie that's how he spelled it) is wearing a shirt that reads "I am your future boss." I wanted to ask him if his throat was soaring????? LOL...

Hahaha, OMG you should

Hahaha, OMG you should have!!!! LMAO. Well that just says it all. I will look for this study and post it. I think they had one of the researcher on the Today's Show. Interesting data but I clearly see that it is reality. Just look at MTV that says it all. It scares me to think of what it will be like when we are older and being cared for by a bunch of raving lunatics that should be institutionalized themselves. Most Docs fit the criteria already. Very scary thought indeed!!!! Throat soaring...ha love it!! xoxo only one way to go...Forward (tm?)

I am pretty sure that

I am pretty sure that statistic is coming from actual psychiatric diagnoses, which MOST Narcs never ever get. Since they aren't likely to go submit to a good psych eval. There are other so-called statistics that project the number of NPDs (or at least people who display the traits) is as high as 20% of the population.

make that 55% where I live - narcville!

Think of things that narc's love - money, power, control, vanity and a place to parade a false fantasy image. Bingo! The place I live is a small community and it attracts a lot of these kinds and it infects the social and cultural vibe on so many levels. There are places in this world that ooze narcs - i'm thinking Hollywood, Monaco, Small Carribean islands, 'It' cities - Puerto Banus and Gibralter in Spain have got to be at least 75% narc - heck just about every place on the planet is overrun with these vermin, that's before we even bring in politicians & religious narcs. I think the statistic is way way off coz like Briseis says - most of these folk will never end up in a therapist's office. Where I live, I would say it is 55% narcsville and that is me being hopeful! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ "The deeper that sadness carves into your being, the more joy you can contain." ~ Kahlil Gibran "That which we do not confront in ourselves we meet as fate" ~ Carl Jung http://www.storyofmylife.com/KLARITY4

LOL Klarity :)

I went from living in San Diego, having a corporate nursing job to North Idaho in a town that just got electricity in the seventies. From pure southern California even-the-80-year-old-ladies have boob jobs and bake in tanning beds to teeth optional logger men (most of whom were also missing fingers and toes from their life as loggers). Not only was I TERRIFIED of the North Idaho folks, in retrospect, they were not even slightly narcissistic, in the conventional sense. They were close minded, gun loving and nervous around "outsiders". But they weren't narcissistic. I ended up feeling right at home :) I am a born city girl, too, but I like me some country folk much better.
