Panic Attack Central

Hi my friends!!! I really need your advice right now. I'm having panic attacks again now for the last two days. I have been really missing him. Is this normal? I'm feeling so crazy and doubting myself and my decision.

I was doing so good and I don't know why I've taken so many steps back in just a few days. I have racing thoughts and wonder if I made the right decision on changing my phone number without a word. How long did this stage last for you?? Thanks for helping me!

Panic attacks are your body trying to tell you to make a change...turn the ship around,,,you are headed in the wrong direction..! You, your body are going to seriously need to "deflate" from this crap and messing with.. You will have extreme anxiety, mind racing, nightmares, sounds silly, but guess what,,,GOOD NEWS If you hang in there,,ride it out,,you will improve. You, will improve. If you want more panic attacks, go back to him. If you want more panic attacks, text him. If you want more panic attacks, email him. Yuck. Be compassionate to youself, let your body work through this, you are merely cleansing yourself of evil.

They do go away

I used to get them all the time. The exN drives a gray Camry. Do you know how many there are on the road? I freaked every time one was on the highway he drove to and from Spokane, around town, and so on. I did have a feeling he would drive by one day and yep, there he comes down my street. and this is 4 months after his wedding. Dont think it was the first time. For me, they slowly went away with time. I stopped watching the shows he made me watch. I did like some of them but, it would trigger things so, I avoided it. I avoid country music like the plague. I liked it but, he wouldn't listen to my music and would criticize it. I made sure I didn't subject myself to the triggers. But, I do still take a peek into his life through the avenues I do know where to look. I need to stop doing that. it's like a scab, it itches and i just want it off! My counselor told me that it takes us half the time we were with that person to get over them, chemically. I can honestly say he was right. It took me 1.5 yrs to start feeling less nervous, panic attakcs going away. My doctor also put me on Vitamin D. I started to take St. John's Wort to help with my moods. Omitting lots of caffeine and sugar helps. I'm really sorry you are going through this. We've all been there and know how it feels.

Excellent advice Stronger!! Thank you. So smart of you to ty and eliminate the triggers. Good for you!! I used to get anxiety when my phone would let me know I had a text (when he had my number) Then I changed my phone to getting the notices for email too. It was constantly vibrating and ringing~ Instead of avoiding it I did the opposite. lol. Actually worked but now I don't have to worry about it. Oh, Haven't had a Panic Attack in a few days. Thank goodness!!! I think I will try and get off the sweets and Caffeine too. UGH!!! Thanks girly!

I remember my first panic attack after he moved away to another state and I tried to call him. only to find out he had changed his phone number and of course after 15 years, did not tell me. I was up in the middle of the night trying to find out what his new phone number was, impossible to do and i felt so utterly ALONE, it was scary and horrible, I will never forget the feeling.Maybe now he can feel the same thing as he is dying of 2 cancers by himself...............

Cherryblossom - you ABSOLUTELY made the right decision!! :)

But I do think what you are going through is normal. I had HUGE panic attacks when I made the decision to stop contacting or responding to my exN. Like coming off a really nasty addiction, I felt like I was going mad with detox at times. But it did ease up - I do still get some panic pangs every now & again, but they're short & I can knock them down a lot easier now. I've certainly found that SO much of the post-N process happens in cycles - like the worlds worst round-about. But eventually the cycles back to those periods of doubt, panic, missing the N etc., get shorter & shorter & more further apart until you just don't have them at all anymore. I don't think you're taking steps back. I think everything you are doing involves big steps forward. About a month ago I read something that this amazing woman I know wrote. It was so powerfully worded & really touched me & became something that helped & inspired me so much when I would get those moments of missing my exN or wanting to be in contact with him. Maybe it will help you when you find yourself missing him: "Whenever I think about him~ even in the last part of our non-relationship, he was being so sweet~ The mere thought of him and even responding to anything he had to say felt like a betrayal to my own soul." And aha! That wonderful woman was.... you!! You absolutely made the right decision Cherry - you have a gorgeous heart & soul & you deserve to be safe from your N. And he doesn't deserve an inch of anything from you. Huge hugs :) Ava xxxoooo

Hiya gorgeous! :) Ah you're so right, it really is amazing how we can have those times of completely forgetting all the bad stuff. But you know I think its more than us just being "emotional" - I think a lot of it is that twilight zone & cog diss - in my experience narcs do so much that is just so fundamentally shocking & unbelievable and seem to make no sense at all to us, that I think its almost human nature to sometimes believe "Oh that CAN'T have happened" or "it simply CAN't be that bad." And so because we can't make sense of it or wrap our heads around it, after a while of being away from it we do kind of forget a little, or perhaps doubt is a better word. But I sure have no doubts that you've made the right decision - you have such life & love inside you, you've such a gorgeous heart & soul & that narc doesn't deserve to have you even thinking about him. I am so glad I found you Cherry! You make me smile, you warm my heart, you bring tears to my eyes & you give me so much hope & inspiration :) xx I'm doing ok - had a bit of a crash last week after exN contacted me again asking for help, but am coming out of it now & am actually starting to be glad for it because its given me another wake up call to keep working hard & moving forward! How are you going today? And if you ask me, I think you're kicking HUGE butt! Go Cherry!! :) Ava xxxo

AVA~ WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh my goodness girly!! What you wrote is exactly what I would do all of the time. "it simply CAN't be that bad. And so because we can't make sense of it or wrap our heads around it, after a while of being away from it we do kind of forget a little, or perhaps doubt is a better word." I used to think all of these positive things like... he wouldn't really do that to me. And I would think this even if I caught him lying directly to my face. I was in such DENIAL!!!!!!! If I really only knew the truth about what he was really doing that entire time I would probably be throwing up in the bathroom right now.lol I used to think if I played it cool with him he would come around. You know... don't pressure him, don't ever ask if he is seeing someone else, don't ask him for anything, don't act to needy. It really got to be exhausting trying to be so "cool" with him while I had to always answer to him or their would be hell to pay. Does that make any sense? Anyways, how is everything going with you?? Hope your well sweetie!! xxA

Definitely!

I was the queen of Panic Attacks. EWWW, horrible. I took some medicine to help me out but it actually made my anxiety worse so I weaned myself off of them. I would get a panic attack whenever I had to face him in court, when he would send a letter, or when I would see there were warrants out for his arrest. I really know how you feel. Something just clicked in me one day that stopped me from having panic attacks. I work at a hospital...I see sick and dying people every day that would give anything to have some more days to breathe in the air, to spend with their loved ones etc. It got me thinking...here I am, freaking out over a man that isn't worth it. I get all worked up and hyperventilate and "can't breathe" etc, all those things that come along with a panic attack. I look at these people who don't know when there last breath will be. I decided that my life isn't that bad. I have people in my life (unlike the N) who actually LOVE me, I can breathe and will have many more breaths to breathe...I have been given a second chance to have a happy life apart from the abuse of the N. These people don't have a second chance but would love one. I decided that life is good and I have a lot to be thankful for...whenever I feel the panic start to well up inside of me...I just remember the conclusions I have drawn in regards to the chances I have been given in comparison to all the people I deal with daily who are facing the end of life and terminal illness. The panic attacks have seriously been reduced.

Thanks JJ!!

I'm glad you don't get them anymore. They are freaking awful. I try to control it with deep breathing but that hasn't been working very well. I think its because its still so soon. One day at a time. =) Thanks for your support!!

Just curious hon, what

Just curious hon, what happens during your panic attacks? I think it will last as long as you doubt yourself. As long as you have doubts that you are NOT better off without that idiot plaguing you? Sitting in your house texting other women? IMO, this kind of pain lasts until you have no doubt that your life is better without him.

better life

haha! Briseis is right, ya can't get rid of him until the switch goes off. I can date the switck, August 2, 2010. It works like an off button, the last straw sort of. I still struggle with the anger and the mess HE left me to clean up. As far as doubts? NO WAY! You will get there honey.

you did the right thing!

you did the right thing! they only bring pain and more pain! I too have suffered panic attacks. Get thru it if you can. You can do this. A life with the N is no kind of life. For me its just a terrible addiction.
