narcs in movies

This is too funny. I'm just sitting here looking for something to watch on TV and settle on a Woody Allen movie "Deconstructing Harry".

OMG! The character of Harry (played by Allen) is every single narc that each of us has described all rolled into one single jerk - Harry! (Susan, even your ex-Professor). And the fights/conversations that he has with ALL of his MANY women is eerily similar to what we've all experienced. Check this one out!

I'm watching this movie in utter amazement!

Mr. Schue in GLEE

William Schuester on Fox's GLEE sounds waaay too familiar to me. He's handsome, vain, likes hanging out with the kids, and he's a bit of a kid himself. His ex-wife is a psycho, women throw themselves at him... and he's always cast as the victim. In the disturbing episode "Ballad",the cheerleader Rachel has a crush on Mr. Schue because they sing a duet together. To "teach her a lesson",he has her do menial housework with his awful wife as a punishment. Yes, for having a crush. He also takes her (sadistically) to the bedside of a comatose student who attempted suicide because she was IN LOVE and he didn't reciprocate. In the end, Rachel apologizes for having a crush on him(?) and he tells her one day she'll find a man who REALLY respects her (aren't teachers supposed to respect their students?) Hit a bit too close to home for me. Even fans of the show think the Schue handled it badly.

Deconstructing Harry

Terri- What's funny is that during the D&D one of my friends suggested that I watch "Deconstructing Harry." She said she saw my ex-P in the character of Harry (my therapist said that the ex-P sounds like a fictional character) After the D&D, I told the ex-P, "This is real life, not Greek tragedy." Thank goodness THAT drama is over....

Dangerous Liaisons / Valmont

The character of Valmont. Two version worth watching - the Glenn Close / John Malkovich version is the more well-known of the two and worth it. The second version, less well-known but more appealing if any of you are Colin Firth / Mr. Darcy obsessed like I am =) ... is the movie Valmont with Annette Benning and Colin Firth. Valmont is a total N as is the Close/Benning character - he ruins the marriage and life of a sad but innocent woman. Both films are fabulous.

Cruel Intentions

There's also the remake set in a contemporary high school, "Cruel Intentions",with Sarah Michelle Gellar, Reese Witherspoon, and Ryan Philippe. As for Colin Firth, he stars as Ben Barnes' older boyfriend in the "Picture of Dorian Gray" remake.

Colin Firth's birthday

Today is Colin Firth's birthday. He's turning 50. Also check him out (so to speak)in "A Single Man." His role has some narc characteristics, but he plays a noble role as a man grieving his longtime partner. However, the opening monologue would be applicable to the ex-P professor (Firth stars as a professor named George). George sees himself as a role, as a role whose name is George.

Picture of Dorian Gray

One of the archetypal narcissists. There's a recent movie version starring Ben Barnes (Prince Caspian in the Narnia series) Dorian Gray, so handsome and seductive in appearance, purposefully breaking an innocent woman's heart by seducing then abandoning her... and his painting, which is as ugly as his heart.

War and Peace

Leo Tolstoy was a narcissist. His wife Sofia (16 years his junior) sacrificed her talents (she was talented as a writer/musician, and resented the sacrifice) for him, along with her family, and herself. "War and Peace" has numerous Narcs... in the movie from the '50s, Mel Ferrer stars as the narcissistic Andrei Bolkonsky, who drives loved ones away from his deathbed. Audrey Hepburn is the narcissistic Princess Natasha. Natasha's "conversion" through marriage to Pierre sounds like the results of NPD. In the epilogue, she neglects her appearance. She goes from being a beauty to being a plump slob, spending her life pregnant with Pierre's kids. There are A LOT of papers here on the Internet about the narcissism of Prince Andrei. What I suspected got validated. Of course, the ex-P was endlessly quoting Tolstoy my freshman year. Trying to get him to think for himself? There is no Viagra/Cialis FOR THAT!

Funny Narcs?

Maybe I'm wrong but I've always thought that Dr. Evil from the Austin Powers movies and King Julien from Madagascar were classic narcs. They never really had relationships with women but everything else about them was sooo narc - like. As much as I hate narcs, these two still make me laugh! What's really twisted is I think that I fell for mine because he was like these two at first. By the time I realized I had a monster on my hands, I had wasted most of my life!
