NARCS and pets

Are NARCS able to have, nurture and love a family pet? I'm curious if a person's attitude towards animals is any indication of their lack of emathy and/or caring? My STBX-NPD has a strong aversion to animals of any kind. going so far as to refuse visiting people on the simple basis of whether they have pets.
