Narcissism and Video Games

Not sure if this topic has ever been posted, but I just watched a trailer for a game called Civilization and it struck me - - a lot of these games (or rather, all of these games) revolve around the player being - the great one who leads whole armies, building empires and taking over the galaxy - - -

These games have only been around for the last thirty or so years and they become more and more realistic with technological advancement. I know I started playing Super Mario when I was about seven or eight - - kids today play games like Civilization and World of Warcraft.

I wonder if this is part of what has contributed to the rise in narcissism. Imagine being seven, being sucked into a video game where you are building an empire on an interactive online game and then you have to go out and face the real world . . Imagine playing these games everyday for most of your life. How troubling is that?

I've been playing video

I've been playing video games similar to that since I was five, and I turned out ok. I still play video games. I'm not a narcissist.
