Lack of rage

Just a quick question. My soon to be ex never raged. He never yelled either . In fact
early on in our marriage he said if I yelled at
him he would not talk to me until I could speaks to him in a normal tone of voice.
He would be quiet and shut me out.is that just a different way to show his anger? He fits a lot of the criteria for narc but not the raging part!
