I loved this movie and immediately asked myself if the Alec Baldwin character was a narc. I really don't think he was a full-blown narc - just narc tendencies. He seemed way too "human" at the end and seemed to understand and accept her decision with maturity. A true narc would have tried to make her feel like she was being mean to him and would have tried to guilt her into changing her mind.
I think there are LOTS of men out there who are immature and selfish and do things mindlessly - just to satisfy their own needs. But are not necessarily narcs. I try to keep this in mind as I consider moving forward into the dating world. Many many men are selfish and set in their ways and after my experience with the TRUE narc, I tend to stick that label to everyone.
The lesson is Meryl Streep makes a successful narc free life for herself. Until.... He returns (they always return) she wins in the end! I don't want to spoil it!
Enjoy an Ideal Narc free day!
I think it's a great mOvie! You're right! A great example of narcville. I would recommend amyone here who hasn't seen it to give it a shot. I think you will enjoy it. Thanks Ideal!

Lol! That's so funny, I saw it awhile before I found this website or knew about narcs so I didn't make the connection, but now that you mention it, wow, ya, her ex had to have been a narc!
He was slimy in an almost likable way, easy to see why she'd care about him as I found myself feeling sorry for him and disgusted by him both at the same time - lol!
I love Meryl Streep and I found the movie very entertaining.
I'll have to watch it again now with this new perspective!
