I just wanted to ask

After being with a Narcissist, because of the depth of pain they cause, can you in term adopt Narcissistic traits and their defence mechanisims aswell? I've read of people becomming that which they despise. And lately I've been rather self absorbed! And some of his craziness had rubbed off on me!Afterall it did work for him.

no tasha

no you are NOT becoming a Narcissist it is common for victims to take on some traits of the N subconciously in order to try to balance the power... but it will fade the longer you are away from him. This is also part & parcel of his brainwashing that you picked up some behaviors from him. ~~~~~~~~~~~~ My Abuse Information Site Online Coaching & Help

great!thankyou

Thankyou for that, I notice alot of behaviors that I have now are similar-especially the mirroring, being self absorbed just not caring about anyone but me. This is not who I normally am,that's why it's such a worry. I'm glad it will fade and that there is a logical explanation.

thank god, i wondered that because of how numb my feelings are at times. Our brains arent wired like that, if I was a narcissist I would not be in pain from emotions I feel, nor would i be on xanax experiencing anxiety from worry, I do not worry about my next supply I suffer from being the supply.

Part of recovery for me is thinking of myself first right now. But like Barbara said, I hear it will all balance out.
