Hurt!

The silent treatment hurts so much. It hurts more than anything else I can fathom. I'd rather be punched in the stomach or called horrible names. How screwed up is this thinking? At least then I would know where I stood or what he was thinking.
I wish I could embrace this silence and learn to let go.
I am closing in on 7 weeks of thhe silent treatment and the pain is getting worse. I think primarily because this is the longest one so far. The last long one was 6 weeks...

I'M confused

I'M confused DazedandConfused! Aren't you the one giving HIM the silent treatment now with No Contact? I know it hurts to be ignored and dissed by the narc-hole, but he DOES NOT DESERVE YOU! Take your power, your heart and your life back and use this opportunity he's giving you with his abusive neglect and go silent on HIM... for good!! ((hugs))

Journey

He is giving me the silent treatment. I attempt NC and cave in about 3-6 days each time and send a text to him. I am going to follow through this time. But if this was easy I wouldnt be on this forum seeking help right? I am taking my power and my life and moving on away from this abuse. This original post was written by me so I could write and vent without firing off another text to him.

Please don't take me the

Please don't take me the wrong way DAZED, I know how hard it is and I am proud of you for writing here instead of reaching out to him!! I understand it is his choice to give you the silent treatment, I'm only saying to think of it as YOUR choice instead... like you are doing by not reaching out, except also to stop the thoughts which say it is up to him, by making it ONLY up to you now. ((hugs))

silence too here

Not complete silence. But we are just down to a dozen emails a day since he refuses to give me his new phone number until he decides that I have been good long enough and have earned it. I would literally do ANYTHING to have his phone number. I am dying over here with him only emailing me.I texted and spoke to him every single day, sometimes we talked for hours and hours. And I have been cut-off from him and cut-out of his life now for almost four weeks. It has been like the ninth circle of hell for me. ER knows this. He knows that I am losing it at this point. The last time he made me wait three weeks (no contact at all, this was 8 months ago) before we were talking on the phone and texting and I had to wait four weeks before I saw him in person again. This time I have no idea how long he will do this to me and I am terrified that I won't see him. I have no idea where I stand with ER and he loves doing this to me. I feel like a puppet and he is pulling my strings. I have no idea how to stop.

I would literally do ANYTHING to have his phone number. I am dying over here with him only emailing me" OMG - did I read that right?! I was lucky if I got two emails a day from my exN and that was when he WASN'T D&Ding me. 12 emails a day is NOT silent treatment - silent treatment is getting absolutely NOTHING from him, no answer, no acknowledgement... And if he gave you his number, what would you say if you could speak to him?! Would you beg that he would 'let you' see him? Do you really want to try to stay close to a narc who treats you like a puppet and torments you for his own enjoyment?! Obviously there has been something you've gotten from this relationship that has worked for you, companionship, happy long talks, validation, love from him (or what you thought was love)... but if you take an honest look at the dynamic HE controls, you are only getting emotional abuse and whatever he feels like giving from day to day. I'm sorry to be so blunt, but I just have to speak up about this. You say you have no idea how to stop... well, why don't you just try to turn off your email and phone for a whole day and go out with a friend or by yourself - do ANYTHING other than wait around for your narc to pull your strings some more. You CAN stop this, but you are the only one who can. No Contact! Let HIM experience the silent treatment for real!! (((((hugs)))))

terrified of losing him

I know what you are saying. I have thought about turning off the computer and not responding for a day. I have thought about not giving him anymore money. I have thought about taking back my power but I am so afraid that I will lose him completely. There are those I have spoken with who know he is a narc who have told me that I won't lose him because I have a commodity he needs (money)that he can get nowhere else. I have also been told that such a commodity can be used as leverage in the relationship but I am too scared to do this because what if I am wrong and he gets mad at me and leaves me for good? I am frozen with fear.

Sounds to me like you are allowing this! Silence is Abuse, google it! You need to take your control back! Yes your are a puppet. Do you like that? How do you stop, you make it stop! Delete,Delete,Delete. Is it easy no, but each day gets easier. I think you know you are better than this. Show him who's boss and say Good Bye!! Read everything you can get your hands on! Hunter

I am reading and learning

But all of this is so new to me. I just realized that my father had NPD and that's so much of where my trouble comes from. I've read Lisa Scott's two books, Sam Vatkin's book, Help I'm in Love with a Narcissist and I'm currently reading Disarming the Narcissist. I've gone to many websites too and read everything I could. ER is a somatic narc, he's not like many of the narc's I've heard of in that he is from a lower socioeconomic background and has no education. We are polar opposites in that regard. I went to an ivy league school and ER has a GED. Also we never had any issues in person, it was always when we were apart. I'm very confused. I don't see how I can ever be the boss when he is all I want.

I was also thinking that him emailing you is not giving you the silent treatment. He sounds like he is just a jerk not giving you his number as a way to make you beg for it. Sick men!!! I found this lovely site when I googled silent treatment used as abuse. I wasnt sure if it was even abuse until I found so many websites addressing the silent treatment. I love google!!!

Tell yourself you dont stand

Tell yourself you dont stand anywhere with him. Its over. Im telling you endure the pain and let this round of silent treatment end it. If you keep going back and engaging over and over his control over your thoughts is gonna get tighter and tighter. Suffer the pain and get yourself out of this now.

I so appreciate your comments and wisdom!!! I am going to do this, I am feeling stronger. And moving in the right direction. Its just a slow process for me to realize what mistakes I made, deal with my guilt. Realize that the good I saw in him doesnt exist. And that I am in a better place. I keep thinking I dont want to lose what I have in order to appreciate it. :)

Hi Dazed...

I have been punched in the stomach and called horrible names more times than I can tell you. Trust me when I say that the silent treatment IS better than being physically, emotionally and verbally abused. You say "at least I would know where I stood!?". I can't believe that you could find any comfort in being assaulted. I know you were being fecitious, but that's not something you should ever wish for! Yeah, I knew where I stood after being punched. I knew I stood in front of a very unstable, violent man and that I had to get away FAST. Please don't think that violence or abuse equals love. It does not! It means CONTROL. You need to understand that either he is using the silent treatment to emotionally manipulate and control you, which appears to be working... Or he is being silent because he is trying to make a final break from the relationship. My exN used to withdraw and go silent for weeks at a time. I used to freak out and flip out, but come on... After so many times, I got hip to his little game, and stopped buying into it. After a while, i began to enjoy the silent treatment. That meant that he wasnt verbally attacking or abusing me and it also gave me some time to start mentally detaching and to realize what a scumbag he really had become. Once he realized that ploy no longer was effective, he stopped doing it. I don't know your backstory with this guy but it sounds like you need to take back some of your power and control. Don't let him manipulate you like this. You've made it 7 weeks. You can go the distance. If he keeps giving you the silent treatment for weeks and months at a time... I would say this relationship is over and you really need to get serious about moving on. I know you can do it. Hang in there... Post and read alot! Hugs Monique

I should have never said that physical abuse would be better. I would never want that for me or anyone else. Rejection sucks plain and simple. I was hurting yesterday and am coming to terms with this.

I really dont know what to

I really dont know what to say to you anymore! Silence is his abusive sentence!! When he speaks to you it's cruel, so what exactly are you looking to gain? Leave it alone, did you find a therapist? Did you get anti depressants?? Besides texting him what are you doing to move past this? You say you care for your husband, is contacting this asshaft doing that?? STOP! Hunter

Process

I think this will take me time to recover. I want the hurt to stop. I guess what it comes down to it I need to come to terms that he doesn't care. All the things he has said were not true. I do love my husband. I believe this dynamic between us has nothing to do with that. I am actually a very sane happy person that got mixed up in past unresolved feelings with my ex. It wouldnt be that big of a deal if he wasnt disordered and play mind games with me. I have been doing well until yesterday when I got another kick of rejection. I guess it was his way of trying to get a response from me. But I did not respond.

Ok. We have talked about

Ok. We have talked about this. Everything isnt peachy with your marriage. This is absolutely about your marriage. If your marriage were vibrant and healthy it would not have happened. My guess is your bored in your marriage. He is like a shiny new sports car. This is very much about you and your marriage. The irony is it really isnt all about him. You will only continue to delude yourself if you think it isnt. I dont know how to tell you to get your marriage back on track that will take time. Go out and do something with your husband that you dont normally do. Take up a new interest. Decorate your house for fall. Shop. I truly feel that you are bored.

I was doing pretty good

I was doing pretty good today, and then got another d&d from him. I guess another nail in the coffin to show me he doesnt want to communicate with me. Anyhow...just hurts that someone I care about can treat me like shit. I wish I could yell at him and tell him what a terrible evil person he is. But I am not capable of saying a mean thing to him. Perhaps this is part of my problem. For a year and a half he has done unspeakable mean and cruel things to me...I am left apologizing and begging him to talk to me. Freaking pathetic! I am normally a very strong person, and have NEVER ever let anyone treat me like this and keep coming back for more. Its almost like I know I deserve it to an extent with him...ugh

hi Dazedandconfused, looks

hi Dazedandconfused, looks like you have company... me. what you are experiencing is same as what i am experiencing. I hope we can someday put this horror and tragedy into the dustbin of deleted memory.. i understand this is possible only if we have the resources to go NC and still survive and thrive and contnue the same comfortable lifestyle. but more often than not, it becomes a failing game to compete with a successful narc. if i suddenly got a windfall...and a whole new LIFE...say like Alice through the Looking Glass... who knows...i may be able to experience what it feels like to wake up to a loving and nurturing world rather than the abusing one i am living in now... who knows what the future holds.. we can only pray and hope for the best. unfortunately, it seems to be a proven fact that Narcs have a ball and us victims cannot have a ball. we spend so much of our time, energy, mind, psyche researching about NPD and venting on this forum...but THEY spend their time chatting with a New Lover, porn, and generally enjoying their life.. i know some of you will tell me that they are not really enjoying life...but..i beg to differ...I can see how fantastic a life my NH is enjoying...and also enjoying seeing me devalued, discarded, and dungeoned too.

It is too early to let go

You can not expect to be able to let go right now. With time and NC only. However, what you absolutely need to do is to keep NC regardless his silent treatment. Even if he pops up one day, you should keep NC, even if your heart will want to do the opposite. Imagine, how good it will be to feel healed and not having him in your head? Being happy without him. Sounds like a dream, doesn't it? You can make it real! Love Winter

(((( BIG HUGS )))) I understand how you're feeling so hurt. But you're not that far out yet. You're doing really good with your NC. What I have found really helpful during the hardest times early on, was to think about the further damage he would do if I contacted him out of desperation or to relieve the NC. Imagine that he would say something brutal to you taking you all the way back to day one. You're very strong and you can do this. I'm over nine months out now and still I struggle, but it isn't nearly the reasons I was struggling in the early months. Hang in there.

Honey, he's not thinking

He hss it timed down to the minute when to glance your way or make some small gesture in your direction. Then he will laugh like crazy while you stand on your heads and spit nickels for more. He has you wound up like a doll with a key in her back. And he knows that wherever he is you are ticking away, waiting for him to wind you up again, so what is there to think about? This is a break-up. Rebuild, recreate and start living your life with him as a closed chapter. Otherwise the pain will start all over again.

Don't blame the victim; blame the chainsaw

Would you want him to contact you if he had punched or slapped you across the face? Especially when you know there will be no apology or comfort for your feelings, just a barely suppressed chuckle that here you are again? What if you read this in the paper: woman punched in the face begs for abuser to call her. Says she can't stand for him to ignnore her. Come on! Women who are raped or abused are not doomed because the fault is not theirs. It was awful what happenned. Terrible that you fell in love with a man like this, but Ns do exist and strong, lucky women get away to tell the tale. They go NC and learn to trust that their normal feelings will be returned one day by a normal man.

mine is doing the same thing, i felt just like you did a few days ago, I am 2 months in now, my ex knows I HATE to be ignored and he think it's funny, but I don't know if you read THE CYCLE on goldies blog, i wrote about it today, I like # 7 , being put on the naughty step and given a time out for 3 months, I like the naughty step and the time out lol It is very peaceful right now, you will get there, stay here there are allot of wonderful people here that will help you get through it I promise, I am still struggling with his silent treatment , hell I may never hear from him again , but that's ok, he can do whatever he needs to do. take care of you right now ok? I know it;s hard but you can do it, you have to do it for yourself and your sanity! vent when you need to, cry when you need to.
