Help: do I break NC?

My ex just emailed and said to call him ASAP as it is an "emergency." I have changed my number an have been NC for just over a week. Do I respond to the email? Is this just a ploy? He knows I'm out of state, so I'm not sure with what kind of emergency I could even assist at this point.
