Forgiving The Narc?

I just started posting here today..my story is posted in the SHARE YOUR STORY forum if you'd like to get familiar with me.

A few days ago, I shared my story (not in full detail) with a co-worker of mine. I would say that I'm a very spiritual person. He is very active in his church and we often have conversations regarding religion. So I went to him for spiritual guidance, so to speak and one of the things he advised me to do was to forgive my ex Narc.

So I said to him.."I should forgive him IN SPITE of the fact that he was abusive to me and just plain evil to me!?" And he said " Yes. That is the only way you will be able to release his power over you and move on. That's what God would want me to do."

So I'd like to know what others think about that statement. How do you forgive someone who clearly has no remorse for what they've done? How do you forgive someone who will never apologize for what they've done in order to get that forgiveness?
