Counseling

Can anyone recommend a way to get low-cost, effective counseling? I am REALLY burnt out from spending the last 10 years in both romantic and professional relationships with N's or people like them. My goal right now is to focus more on my life and stop catering to others needs. I have done that personally, but am "stuck" in professional positions because of the economy and the fact that I have spent the last 17 years in childcare.

Originally, working with children was wonderful! Unfortunately, I have ended up working for some families that consider the Childcare Professional to be an indentured servant. I have been making changes to accumulate different job skills, however, I feel STUCK!!!

I currently have no health insurance because I scaled down my hours from my current position just so I could break away from the insanity. I started working for my relative 2 days a week to gain a piece of mind, however took a huge pay cut. I am a student and can get counseling through the school, if need be. Any suggestions would be helpful!!

but BE CAREFUL....

i had a free therapist who did me a lot more harm than good...she herself cranked my PTSD up at least three notches...if you feel like they're not helping you...or actually making you feel worse...or if they are accusatory or dismissive..dump them and look for another...

also...

if they call you codependent or a martyr or try in ANY WAY to blame you for being in a relationship with these creeps - leave, report them and find someone new immediately. ~~~~~~~~~ The world is a dangerous place, not only because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. - Albert Einstein Visit My Info. Agreed

About running for the hills when you're called codependent or blamed for these guys. My mom is a therapist and she does that to me and I know she blames her own clients in situations like this.

Thanks

Thanks, you guys. I contacted a hypnotherapist/life coach today for a meeting. I will have to weigh the cost options and may have to work some extra days, but it will be worth it. Again, thank you. It helps to have people that know what they are talking about! :)

Low-Cost Counseling

call your local Catholic Charities (you don't have to be Catholic) Tell them you just got out of an abusive relationship and need low-cost counseling... they should refer you to someone with a sliding scale call your local DV Crisis Center - see if they have people on sliding scale or a weekly group you can join many large hospitals have psychology/ counseling centers... see if you can call there, explain your situation and be seen by a 3-rd year student if you know some good therapists, call and see if they will work with your financial situation do NOT give up until you have found someone ~~~~~~~~~ The world is a dangerous place, not only because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing. - Albert Einstein Visit My Info.
