Fooled no longer, do you think its a culture thing? mine is sicillian... both his parents are fresh off the boat sicillians, although he grew up in CT.
But I know other Italians too, most of them aren't really like them...
I think the answer lies in a very closed culture in your statement "fresh off the boat sicillians" I think Narcs are everywhere in the world though. But if you are not part of this culture you will put his strange behaviour down to a culture gap rathtr than what it is , whereas an Italian girl will see him as he is. We romantisise it. Bad, bad bad,intercultural marriages with a narc suck even more.
Heck yeah! My mother in law when I finally cracked and told he hes a cheater. She said my dear my husband did the same you need to ve more tolerant this is how all men are.
Of couse when confronted by N will say the same every man cheats, buys porn, oggles women.

The exN's Mother was dead so he just made up any stories he wanted to to sugar coat his life. His Mother, I imagine suffered just like us except she shot the Father 5 times. I understand how she must have felt.
