Leo Tolstoy

Leo Tolstoy died in 1910, he was also a MAJOR Narc. I think one can use great literature to explore NPD. I think the human desire for narrative makes the entire scenario we've been through make sense. "War and Peace"-Prince Andrei is a cerebral Narc. He lives so disconnected from his body he manages to scare EVERYBODY regardless of social class, even his fellow soldiers. His fiancee Natasha, is enamored of him (and scared of him), and her friends/family warn her against him. There are the psychopathic Kuragins- Helene and Anatole. Dolokhov is portrayed as a cold psychopath, who still loves his Mommy and cares for his hunchbacked sister. Pierre is a Narc. In the end, Natasha loses the spark in her eyes, and becomes anti-social&fat like her hubby Pierre. She loses the ability to sing as soon as she "comes of age." "Anna Karenina"-Anna is considered a Narc-and it's probably resulted from 7 years of a cold, emotionless marriage to the cerebral Narc Alexei Karenin. Constantine Levin, Tolstoy's alter ego, is often portrayed as the "good guy",as the Christian, peasant-loving contrast to Vronsky&Alexei, but he's a Narc too. He's attracted to Princess Kitty because she's an aristocrat like him. He idealizes her, gets obsessed with her, is unable to put himself in her place... and she's young enough to be his daughter. For those of us with Daddy issues, BOTH Anna and Kitty are married to men old enough to be their fathers. "Diaries of Sofia Tolstoy"-A harrowing read. Shows that marrying a Narc isn't worth it, even if said Narc is a genius. Doris Lessing does an excellent intro.

Going to a bookstore I

Going to a bookstore I usually take some time and just 'let the right book find me'. Has worked well so far for about 50 years.

I second that one FF2BME!

excellent! Also in addition to Sandra Brown's book I highly recommend Narcissistic Lovers - Cynthia Zahn (sp?) These two were by far the best I have read, and I have really been devouring books on the subject!
