Big Hat, No Cattle

Just heard this phrase again today... fits a narc pretty well, huh? (It's a Texas expression)

Read it in this article on yahoo today: How To Tell If You're Dating A Financial Deadbeat.

It's a good N checklist really. If you really look at the signs listed, they are all about showing off more than financial irresponsibility. Because N's are all about showing off and everything about irresponsibility, whether it's financial, sexual, family, you name it.

I especially thought the first one was important, because I have a friend who keeps going on these internet match dates, and she is always so impressed by these expensive dinners they take her to, and act like money is no object... when it's just to dazzle and impress and has nothing to do with what a person is really like. I once read that waitresses love customers who come in with an internet date, because they will tip really big to try to impress the date.

LOL!

There's a lot of Texas sayings that describe the Narc perfectly. "He thinks the sun comes up just to hear him crow" "The engine's runnin' but ain't nobody driving" "He's all vines and no taters" "There's two theories to arguin' with a Narc, and neither one of them work." "If you shake his hand, you better count your fingers."

LOLOL...

Haven't read the article yet but the ex got all into being Western when we moved west. In the typical narc way--fashion-wise! He took some self portraits that were all serious and even took to calling himself cowboi (surely he knows how the term boi is used in the gay community?) My sister took one look at the pictures, looked at me and just said "big hat, no cattle." I laughed for days because it sums things up so perfectly. Thanks Better Off :)

Seriously

The man is close to 60, he blew past boi-hood about 40 years ago. The photos are so self-important, he even wrote all-about-me-and-my-profound-thoughts stories to go with them. Part of the art collection. He used them in various dramatic ways when we still owned a house together (like, I'd get to the house and one of these babies would be strategically positioned in an otherwise empty room). Sad and strange...well I guess in one respect he still is a boi...emotionally!

Read the article last night

I agreed with everything but the lease thing... because I lease! LOL! As a single female, I like my car to always be new and be under the maintenance/warranty plan. I owned my 1st BMW and and the repairs & maintenance got soooo expensive after the 4th year. So I am on my 2nd lease and I like it. Anyway - the part about not looking at the bill was funny. My ex N fiance would always do that - just hand over his credit card and not look at the bill. The Cuban, who was MUCH wealthier, ALWAYS looked at the bill. And when we were charged for an extra drink, he had them take it off the bill. THAT is normal!

Funny

..my sister sent me that same article yesterday! And my exN husband did all 5 things! I am so glad I kept my finances separate..and I own my car. He rents, has $100K in debt (spent on booze & dinners--without me)...and has to now give up his Audi lease. I wonder how much his mom will lend him for a car. I'm from Tx & I love that phrase
