Because, because, because, because because

The oldie goldie posts today made me reflect on the colossal amount of time I have wasted in my life trying to figure out Why, Why Why.

Why could I never please my father? Why did my husband cheat? Why did he say/do such an awful thing? Why did someone who was supposed to be my friend betray a confidence? Why did I let the opinion of someone I didn't like or respect bother me so much? Why does the government do this? Why does God allow that? Why do babies get sick? Why are people mean/abusive to animals? Why would someone take that risk? Why would anyone treat another person that way?

We want our world to be rational and fair, and those of us who were raised on the Golden Rule try to live our lives accordingly. But the world is not rational, or fair, and you can treat others well, and be badly mistreated in return.

So here is what I think -- the only one we truly need to wonder about is the one we see in the mirror. We may spend a bit of time thinking about different things in our life that have influenced us to think, feel, say or do something, and we can evaluate whether or not we want to continue to think, feel, say and do things the same way, or change them. We are the only ones who can actually figure out WHY we are the way we are, and we are the only ones who can change our own behavior if we want to.

Any time we spend wondering why a N is a N, or if we can change him (or anyone else) is a waste of time. You can spend your time any way you want to, that is up to you. But for me, I am going to try to spend less time worrying about other people, and more time worrying about improving my lot in life, and I will try to be a better and more tolerant person because that will please me. If there is Karma in the world (and I like to believe there is) then karma will just have to take care of the rest of the folks. I hope we are all able to stop worrying Why, and just learn the answer is always Because! Best of Luck!
