Another one bites the dust
I just got back from having lunch with a girlfriend. She has been trying an online dating site. When she decided to try the site, I talked to her about the dangers, but I believe she thought I was being overly protective of her, and that she was big girl and could take care of herself, and blah, blah, blah.
Well, guess what? She couldn't. She is close to my age, and let me just tell you dating was VERY different for us in high school and college, and even when we were young(er) divorcees, than it is now. There was just a different standard of behavior, and decent fellows weren't all about sex, all of the time. They expected to put some time and effort into the relationship, although there were always cads and jerks who tried for the ole one night stand.
My friend ignored all the red flags I pointed out to her -- just from his post's and emails. She ignored being two states away from this fellow, and his requests for pictures and skype very personal dates. She barely knew him when she traveled to meet him and spent a week in a motel on vacation with him (on her dime). She had him to her home and introduced him to her family after that. She thought they were in a r/s, and he was the "love of her life, at last."
Guess who is being dumped and devalued and is receiving no attention now? Guess who cannot figure out why? "Why would anyone treat anyone that way????"
They do it because they are disordered. They do it because they can. They do it because we let them.
And another one bites the dust.
