Question for you: my ExN lived in the UK for many years. He signed everything letter to me with an xxx tho I hadn't spoken to him in almost 15 years. I assumed this is a cultural thing, I wouldn't sign anything to a man as xoxo even though I regularly write that to women friends. Out of curiosity and nothing more, is that generally accepted for an ex to sign off on a letter to a married woman? Much appreciated, xoxo

In the UK it's normal to sign with xxx or x when you are familiar with somebody. I wouldn't expect xxx from an ex partner/boyfriend or indeed from anybody I didn't know really well! I have a good male friend, we are friends and nothing more. He always signs his name and then x. That's OK, if it were xxx I'd be wondering! I sign all letters, Emails, cards etc to my loved ones and good friends with xxx. Never to an ex! Thanks- He started out x but moved up to xxx. I wondererd if that meant something else. Here in the states it's the rating for pornography! But I knew that wasn't quite it either. I figured it was how you sign off to people you care about. Prob why his evil d&d email didn't have either! ;)

Well I'm in the UK and my N would always send me three kisses....UNLESS he was cross with me, then I would get none, then one or two until I was in his good books again. He was trying to hoover me back in the other week with texts, apologising and telling me he loved and missed me, I GOT 12 kisses....he was getting desperate!!!! lol Hope this helps x

I dont think there's any mistaking 12 kisses! Won't that make everything all better? Kind of how kissing my kids' scraped knees makes it all better. Do you think it's odd to sign xxx to a married ex when he was gone for 14 years? Oh yeah, and engaged? I def wondered about that. Thanks

LOL...Kiss it better! I love it....Hmmmm didnt work though, it was too late coming and I'd already kissed myself better and found him out :) I sign xxx to everyone I'm close too, I'm back in touch with an ex who I was very close too and we always sign xxx to each other, always have. BUT he or I aren't married so I'm not sure. That porn stuff you mentioned earlier is something I've never heard of so I don't think it would be that. Sorry I can't be more help xxx :)

You did help, thanks. Your situation makes more sense, you remained close, not married, etc. Mine disappeared on me in 1995! Xxx is the movie rating for porn but I knew that was unrelated. It's just what it means here. My friends and I sign off xoxo, but men never, ever write it here as far as I'm aware, except to wives or gfs. At least that's my experience. I think i'd fall over if a male friend here in the states signed any email to me that way! Good for you to give him the royal kiss off! I bet he didn't see that coming! Xxxxxxxxxxxxx ;)
