The Topic of Closure

I am struggling with this one right now. I exposed my psychopath/N and the lies, cheating, crap he pulled on myself, and other good woman.

It disgusts me, I left him, went total NC.

I have never "gotten it out" to his face.

Never told him what a piece of crap he is, for the calculating, cold lies, cheating.

I have never let it go, told him how dispicable he is, to take years of love, devotion, caring, planning from myself, and the other woman he has betrayed.

The OW, told her all about what happened, well it was gaslight city, and he turned the tables. She should have known better with all the proof, not my problem.

How do you all feel about moving on. Is the best way just to move on, without telling him to his face what a true a-hole he has been, how have you moved on successfully.

When you understand that

When you understand that nothing you say to him will make a bee's fart of a difference, this strong feeling will pass on it's own. He'll just hear what he wants to hear, he always has. He knows at some level he is a complete turd. He doesn't CARE that he is despicable. This is a hard one, I still have fantasies of doing this with my exN. Who knows what a complete waste of human space he is, at some level. We assume they have a conscience that can be piqued. It's a projection of our own. They don't have a conscience. Over time this urge will dissipate :) . Mostly. At least with me it's dissipated to the point that it does not occupy my mind. It heals over, like any other wound. The most important thing is that YOU are convinced of what he is. You sound very convinced. That is good enough. Your power ends there, like it or not :( . But still, it is good enough.

Won't do any good

Everything one says to a true N or P does no good. They just turn it around in the most amazing way & suddenly they are your victim. It's so unbelievable. And then there is just another trauma to yourself. When I left my N, he made such a big deal that he did not want a divorce. That this was what I wanted. He loved me. Blah, blah. The reality was he replaced me immediately (from the day before I moved out) and she was living with him in the house I still owned with him. But he kept it a secret (although I knew). He wanted to emotionally blackmail me in the divorce for abandoning him. Just after the final divorce hearing, I saw him with yet another woman (not one living with him). He sent me an e-mail. I asked about the one with whom he was living. He said, no personal details. I said, you involved me in your personal details when you sought reconciliation when you were living with another woman but not telling me. I knew all along. His repsonse: Nobody could know the extent of my devastation when you left me. Gee! I wonder what that woman thought? Living with him when he was devastated that his wife left him. Since she contacted me AFTER she left him, I learned from her the lies he told her about our marriage being over at least 6 months before I left him. Also, she was stunned to read his e-mails seeking reconciliation. One came in the same week he was proposing marriage to her! It's all a game to these men. He wanted me to do family therapy. Means to control me. I went because I was too scared not to but I knew it was all about control & was very careful to chat him up. I never told the therapist all about the abuse. Nevertheless, he was furious with me because I did not speak well enough of him. And he even said: You do not play the "game" of therapy. I said: I didn't know it was a game. But in that, N revealed his world view: Life's a game. It's all about posturing & always being right--always being on top.

Using therapy as a means of control

My ex-Psychopath professor played that game. I was grieving the loss of my grandfather. Naturally, one would seek out therapy. But he was bullying me-IN CLASS- to such an extent that he used therapy as a means to tease me. He'd say sarcastically that I was "seeing a therapist because I needed to learn to manage my feelings." (Yes, this is one of the many repressed memories that's no longer blocked) To make matters worse, he broke up a friendship between my lab partner and I, turning us against each other... and he was the kind of guy who enjoyed women fighting over him. My therapist found my ex-P's power play particularly disgusting. It was ABUSING his profession, which is supposed to heal.

Yesssssssss

Any attention you give a narc is supply! And believe me, they're not going to say "Ya know what... you're right! I am an a-hole." Think long & hard why need to confront the narc. My suggestion would be to write a letter with everything you want to say... get those feelings out... but don't send it.

Yep

I agree with Bodhi.. write it down and don't send it. But ultimately its up to you. I wrote out a few letters each time with different stuff. I felt better but i never sent them. I felt that i might regret it later. I felt i was better than her (my ex) stronger and more emotionally in tune with myself. Why give her some twisted satisfaction. Silence is a BIG ally!

Nuts!

Well I confronted mine for the lies and just presenting as an ethical, moral human that changed over night. He said oh it's the prozac, it makes me emotionless and I like it that way. I don't have to worry about how people feel about me or what they are thinking. I said you got it it's the prozac.(he had only been taking it a week so bull!) Any normal person would say hey I don't want to be a punk mayb I should drop the med. Fact is he was always cold and emotionless he just acted his part until he had a good reason to show his most ugly face. It was a waste of good air to say anything to him. If I did and he looked straight thru me then I would cry--he got such a glorified look on his face. Every time he brought me to tears publically he got off on it. He saw it as a catch and release. He'd pull me up squeeze me tight all while twisting the knife in my back. The next DD was even more brutal and these were all in a few days time. NUT!! As my ex father in law said there is only 1 thing you can do with a NUT!!

When we confront them, they don't feel they have done anything

The N doesn't feel they have done anything wrong. You are right! They do not see contact with them as development, moving closer, growing with them, the way we view a relationship and dedication to someone. I guess I want him to understand he did something seriously wrong to me, my life, my family. The ultimate in disrespect, to exploit, and take advantage of someone so severely. I had no idea what I was going through with him, thought it was love. Love in the ultimate sense, divine. I though what I gave him was in honor of life, god, all that was and will be, it was deep! To learn he was just a con man fake, wow,,for years, it is inconceivable, yet we have all come around, with out heads up. Dang, we are a strong group here!! :)

that really is the million

that really is the million dollar question that comes right after the 'did he EVER REALLY love me? How inconceivable is this???? That one lingers on and on. No matter how many answers you hear and know are right. It still is just that - inconceivable. Because that IS what the word inconceivable means, right? I still find it quite amazing overall.

Being the therapist

I was very cold and clinical when I told my ex-Psychopath professor that he had been cruel ON PURPOSE. He didn't know how to react, especially when I said my classmates were calling him a jerk behind his back, and that if I were a prospective student, I'd consider him a bully if I saw his behavior. I said, "After 4 years of my kindness, encouragement, etc, this is how you say thanks?" I confronted him about his lies. He was at a loss, and went into word salad territory. He won't speak to me, which is fine with me, since I went NC first, and his parents are living with him (and he's almost 50!) I went NC on him when he attempted to hoover me. When he sabotaged my teaching job, all I did was leave town without telling anyone. I'm happy and successful now. That's my closure.

That is key.

Total rejuvination. Moving beyond, not sticking to any of the bullying and intimidation, being immune, moving on. You have reached that "gratitidue" that he is gone, you see it for what it is, and are free. That is a great place, it is real, and how it should be, the happy, successful you that always was, and is to be. Your morals, moving forward, is that what helped? Just knowing, I deserve better?

It's a bittersweet victory

I see my victory as bittersweet. As my own therapist has said, my ex-P sabotaged any possibilities for friendship and reconciliation. The ex-P and I could've remained friends.. and I would've treated him like any other male married friend. There would be honesty, boundaries. What's sad is that this involved a teacher, and teachers are supposed to protect, honor &RESPECT their students. My ex-P blamed all his bad behavior on me. He said he was acting out--because I was acting out. He was the superior, the role model... and more was asked of him than me. My morals helped me move forward. Ironically, my love of writing (after all my ex-P's flattery) I kept my faith, my family, my friends (he assumed I was going to drop all of them) I've had bad teachers, some really bad ones, but I don't have the depth of gratitude they're gone like with my ex-P. Very weird feeling. I had good professors in college... and sad to say, my ex-P is not one of their number, and it is HIS fault.
