Why does the narcissists who D&D wants to be best friends?

My exNh abandoned me ( D&D) me twice, he vanished for 7 months then calling a couple weeks ago thinking nothing special was wrong, that how am I and we could be best friends, I said it was wrong and that I could not have contact with him anymore, he barked a little over again saying he had told me he was sorry how he treated me and said he didnt mean it, he didnt think there was anything wrong in being best friends. He abused me in every way, except physically. Even I have read very much about NPD I never thought he would ask such a question, like nothing had happened.

Why does the narcissist wants to be best friends when we do not even live in same country and only will write over email??

And would it rage the narcissist I said I could not be a friend?
