Objectification

For us normal folk to truely get youre head around living life without emotion is mind bending , I dont think we can truely grasp it . My narc would do grand jesture of love one day and by the next he would have walked over me in the street if i dropped down dead . No its impossible to understand .
The only thing i can think of in my situations that i could possibly be the same is this analogy .
A couple of years ago i decided to get a new car so i started to look at new cars and i got really into it , comparing diffrent models and going to car show rooms and chatting to friends and eventualy i brought the car and for a month or so i kept it really nice and i looked after it but slowly the car lost that new car smell and sweet wrappers appeared in the back and the children crumbs would get mashed into the seat and i kind of lost intrest in it . I was looking at my car today and was thinking what a reck it is but im not that bothered , it dose its job and gets me from A to B .And i can only think that this is how it must be for a narc with people , the narc sees people as objects ,that, at the beginning they are idealized (thats not love as we know it )and then when that person has lost their new car smell they look around for a new model .
Its very sad that a narc can never feel love ,just imagine a life without love . For all the narcs arrogant and superior ways they truely are the loosers here , they are frauds and liars .

SCOOP

It is so true, once after making love, he got up afterwards to go to the bathroom and I sat upright in the bed, with sheets over me and said to myself, I feel like an object, way before i knew anything about NPD disorders, that is weird. usually when we made love it was the one time I did not feel like an object to him, otherwise I was a toaster or maybe a car!!!

That's the bit I find

That's the bit I find fascinating - that they are fundamentally missing something important, something that leaves them almost sub-human, but at the same time a lot of them regard themselves as enlightened and better than the mundane, ordinary people around them.

Yes....and we get caught up

Yes....and we get caught up in their idealization of us and think it is just the BEST THING EVER. I know that I have never before had someone shine a laser beam on me so intense and so quickly and I admit, I lapped up the attention. I felt "seen" for the first time, completely accepted....little did I know that (just like a drug) that experience would be temporary and I'd spend the next 2 years trying to chase it. I'd take "breadcrumbs" of interest to mean that there was a chance of getting the idealization back..."if only". You can wrap yourself into a pretzel, be the most accommodating and loving person in the Ns life and they would still chase their next fix over you. Feelings run very shallow in their waters.

Great way of wording things, TNR1

"You can wrap yourself into a pretzel, be the most accommodating and loving person in the Ns life and they would still chase their next fix over you. Feelings run very shallow in their waters." Amen to that, Sister.

People as objects

Definitions of N for friends = useful people. For women in general and OW = sex objects (quote: "why pay for something you can have for free?") For me = useful object for sex supply, support, as official partner for business and family Kids = objects to show the world what a good person and father one is (not that they would agree!) Colleagues = people to do the actual work while N surfs the net and then shows it off as his (never worked for long, guys still have their jobs, he doesn't) One year into the relationship with N I found a note to himself on an old shopping list, what back then he could still use his former partner for though she had cancer and might die. He named various body parts of hers he'd like to grab. And she could do the driving when they'd go on holidays to where he wanted. That was all of her usefulness that was left. For other duties he had OW. No, not me. Good news is that his ex survived and has a new partner while N is down in the dumps, where he belongs.

Another very helpful post

Another very helpful post Scoop! :0) I think my favourite part may be this... "...People who objectify others build their own form of solitary confinement, knowing that by sacrificing the trust and good will of others, they are vulnerable to eventual demise of their power. Dictatorships generally last for years or decades but typically collapse very quickly."

Hugo Chavez

The ex-Psych prof idolized the Venezuelan dictator Hugo Chavez, who came to power around '96-97. So yeah, when I first met the ex-P Chavez was coming to power. In the news lately, Chavez has been going to Cuba for cancer surgery. Turns out he has a cancer in the... pelvic area (other than that, no specifics) Karma bites back.
