OUR EXERCISE GROUP - Needs a Name!

Pink Ladies? LOL, not sure if you love or hate the name, but I'm very excited to announce that PatienceGoal will be facilitating a discussion thread on the topic of working out. This thread is intended to help motivate us to work out. Even if we just go for a walk for ten minutes, getting exercise is so critical to both our physical and mental health. If I don't work out, I get depressed. My family is always encouraging me to workout.

I think PatienceGoal's idea of a thread where people can encourage and motivate each other to work out on a daily basis is brilliant! By holding each other accountable and encouraging each other's progress, we can help each other incorporate exercise into our recovery program.

Exercise is part of Step 6 - Heal - and here's why:

Exercise has been linked to positive mental health in numerous studies. Physically, exercise releases feel-good brain chemicals (neurotransmitters and endorphins) that ease depression and lift our overall mood. Exercise reduces immune system chemicals that can worsen depression. It increases our body temperature, which has a calming effect.

Next time you’re feeling anxiety, cope in a healthy way and choose to respond by working out and getting physically active. Research on anxiety tells us that the physical and psychological benefits of exercise can help reduce anxiety and improve mood.

Psychologically, exercise helps you gain confidence by challenging you to meet goals. Getting in shape makes you feel better about your appearance. Working out is a wonderful distraction that can get you away from the cycle of negative thoughts that feed anxiety and depression.

By exercising, you can take your mind off your worries and give yourself time to think about how to respond to anxiety in the most productive manner. Remember, we all experience anxiety. The key is learning how to RESPOND to it. Exercise can also help anxiety and depression from coming back once you’re feeling better.

I can personally testify to the fact that working out can help you relax and feel better. I find kick-boxing to be a wonderful outlet for stress and aggression. I’m addicted to the endorphin-rush of working out. It has an enormous positive effect on my psyche.

Anyone interested in developing a kickboxing workout specifically for people recovering from abusive relationships, let me know! I think we should use our aggression to get ripped! It's amazing how healing and cathartic it feels to throw punches and kicks with a target in mind. :)

Also, open to any suggested names for this group as I won't be offended if you don't like the name "Pink Ladies" LOL

PatienceGoal can lead the charge to take suggestions and pick a name since this is her group. Thanks PG! Great idea! xoxo

I think I found a name for the Exercise Group

In keeping with "Path Forward" and also a play on words of moving our lives forward I am wondering if this would not be the best name for the exercise group: Fast Forward Also we could call it Fast Forward Group, Fast Forward Buddies. Please let me know what you think - I think it keeps the Path Forward concept right in the forefront. p.s. I just did 45 min cardio - will lift weights tonight.

PG

Sorry I'm only able to check in intermittently. I'm having a crazy evening, but I wanted to respond real quick and say that it might be easiest to ask if anyone objects to the name "Fast Forward" If so, they we are open to suggestions. If no one objects or has other ideas, I say we go with "Fast Forward." I love it! xoxo

Hey y'all! I'm excited about the names being offered, and I know the name will come together soon enough. So for right now I am looking to get the exercise vows typed here on the board for today. I am going to the gym right now - 45 cardio and weights. Please report in today before the evening is out! Lisa the name will come - let's keep batting it around! I have some more names for the group to look at, and I don't know if we have to use the word "exercise" in it per se? It could just be understood that the group has a name - just a thought. Please everyone chime in! Possible Group names: About Face New Leaf About Face Buddies New Leaf Buddies Lisa's Ladies Fast Track Right Track Winding Path Forward Fitness Group

No thank YOU Lisa for making

No thank YOU Lisa for making this exercise group a part of the forum, both for me and for all of us on these boards. And thank you eternally for this site. I can't tell you how much real and tangible change has happened within me since I came here to these boards, I'm just so grateful. So for those joining in the exercise buddies group, Lisa brought up the issue of kickboxing which of course is an amazing way not only of getting your aggression towards the narc out but it is also an amazing way of getting and/or staying in shape. I personally prefer my Iyengar and other more strenuous Yoga and weightlifting, and I know that everyone here most likely has their own personal favorite exercise. So, while the kickboxing group may or may not be getting off the ground (and I hope it does!), why don't we for now just start off with committing to each other at the end of the day what we plan to do for exercise the following day. Just check in on this forum and write in. You can also do this the day of, the hour or minute before you decide to do whatever it is that you do. And the rule is, aside from practical issues that come up for all of us that might prevent us from getting a workout, if we cannot get ourselves to exercise, we tell the group, and we talk about what we are feeling at those times. I myself have found that depression from this awful fallout from the narc has prevented me from lifting a finger at times, so... Well - here's to our health! Thank you Lisa!!!!

Name for the group

Any other ideas? Pink Lady IS cute! Short and sweet. I am going to add my own ideas for names: Narcboxers (kinda trying to get AWAY from thoughts of the narc and focus on me, so maybe that's not such a hot name?) Ladies in Training Brightest and Best (Brightest and Best is one of my favorite phrases and it's from a great NPD article that stated "They only pick the brightest and best to go after - anything less spectacular would not do for them, nor would they have as much to tear down. So remember - that he picked you to devalue means that in fact you are the brightest and best".) My pick for the exercise group name is Brightest and Best.

Exercise Group

Oh yeah, we're on the same page, PG! I was just throwing out the kickboxing idea because I've had it for years, but for the purpose of this group, ANY TYPE of working out is what we are striving for here. Everyone has a different workout that works for them. Yoga is great! The body responds to rhythmic, soothing movement. This is why yoga has become such a popular form of exercise and explains why people enjoy dancing so much. Moving your body to a beat is extremely calming and enjoyable. I love yoga and think we should talk about it a lot more on this site. I know several of our members are experts! The idea is to motivate each other to work out in real-time. I like PG's idea to post if you're thinking about working out and then post if you did it. I think encouraging each other like that will help. As far as names, I'm probably showing my age by liking the name Pink Ladies. Grease is one of my favorite movies of all time. Good point about wanting to get away from names with narc in them because we are focused on moving forward. We should name the group in honor of ourselves and our strength. I think the name "Pink Ladies" represents strength, moxie and style in a fun and positive way. I also like your suggestions of: Ladies in Training Brightest and Best Thanks for the idea and thanks for organizing, PG! :)
