Umm, HELP!(???)

I haven't even posted my story, but right now I could just use a little emotional support as I'm only 10 days out from being dumped by my N, lock, stock and barrel. I can't seem to adhere to NC, even though I know from my past (way, way, back...like, 20 years!) it's the only way. I texted, like a jackass and got a response, but an ice cold one, and now I'm here, 43 years old and crying like a baby and feeling like no one understands! Anyone?

Faith

Faith, I so sympathise with your sadness. But keep the NC going. It is your only hope. You will find a better and more fulfilling life beyond N. Give the dust time to settle, as it will. I agree with the poster who says, stop calling them "MY" (anyone would think they are a pet lizard or squirrel). The N was never yours, or anyone else's, that's for sure. Take care of you, Faith. don't cry

you're crying over the first mask he wore, the prince charming mask, aren't you? You're crying over someone who doesn't exist. Don't let doubt inside your head, write lists of all the words that have hurt you, all the promises he broke, everything that he ever did to break your heart. The glee in his eyes when he could see he had succeeded. Take time picturing who you were before you met him, the things you loved and that he killed in you. Did you use to dance? did you use to draw? play the guitar? smile and laugh? bake like a queen? Take time cherishing the old you and bring her back to life. Don't give up :)

Prince Charming

not-there-yet, thanks so much. You said it all when you said I'm "crying over someone who doesn't exist"! Am I the only one who feels as though the blame is directed at ME for being so absolutely reckless and stupid with my life? I feel a sense of shame and guilt over "not knowing better" at my age!

who is blaming you?

If your family members are blaming you, they never ever fell in love. When you fall in love, you're high. You dismiss signs you shouldn't, and when you finally wake up, you're trapped. But I bet they're not blaming you. Are you blaming yourself? I'd bet on that one. Well you shouldn't either. Blaming yourself for thinking the man you loved was a NORMAL HUMAN BEING is insane. We fall in love and hope for the best. That's normal.

Blaming Myself!

Not-there-yet, you got it. Blaming myself. And yes, I think there are others in my life who just shake their heads, not understanding what happened to me. Wait! In fact, I "know" that because they have said as much! "We never knew what you saw in him in the first place." "Why are you acting this way over someone so beneath you?" "You are acting crazy over this rolling-stone type-of-guy. You knew he was like that when you hooked up with him!" Does anyone EVER find these comments the least bit helpful or comforting? To hear someone who has been in love with an N say, "Face it. He can't love you", is something altogether different. To have those who have never walked this miserable path act as though you are pathetic is so hurtful. Don't they think I KNOW I'm pathetic? (sigh)

We understand.

I'm sorry you bought a lemon, sweetie. Once you really plunge into the literature on NPD you will be genuinely shocked by how all of these supposedly "unique" and "special" beings are exactly the same. They're a fleet of ridiculous robots, all downloaded with the same defective program, that should have never have been allowed off the factory floor. You WILL get over this -- stay NC. It really is all about one day at a time right now. Get up in the morning and don't burden yourself with thinking beyond how you will take care of yourself THIS DAY. Before you know it, months will have passed and the fog will have cleared. Stay here with us -- we all understand, believe me. Hugs, D,

a Lemon!

D, what a great and accurate line! Funny, I used to introduce him as my "upgrade" to friends (comparing him to my a-hole ex husband!) I'm gonna use your lemon line! "I upgraded, but turns out I got a lemon." That pretty much says it all! Faith1199

Hi, Faith

Okay, so you've been here before. You've seen how no contact has relieved you of this misery. Remember this person is a sick person who doesn't deserve one ounce of your attention. He doesn't appreciate it. He just sucks it up to make himself feel bigger and leaves you exhausted mentally and physically. The only way back to a healthy life is to get this man out of it. You can do it! xxx, Ruby

10 days out...wow, this is very recent. I'm sorry that you're going through this but thrilled you have this group to vent at instead of him. LOL, when I moved out, I had to listen to sappy break up music on the overhead at work every day for 8 hours...I didn't have this group then...literally, I was on my own..my saving grace were two very good friends who listened to me for hours on end *neither one wants to hear his name at this point LOL* That was 15 months ago...ups and downs since then... good news is, you'll get to a better place and every thing you do to take back control vis-a-vis NC...makes you feel better about the split and keeps propelling you forward...right now though? Feel what you need to feel...you've earned that right! *hugs*

Sappy Music

Syren, My N knows music is what can change my mood in an instant. Down to uplifted, happy to sad, or vice-versa. His latest text to me (days ago) was: "I can't help thinking of that song, 'I Can't Leave You with a Bad Goodbye'. Arrogant Jerk! I love country music; sorry, I'm a 7th generation Okie. This one is old by Clint Black and (I think) Wynonah Judd.

bastard. Oh, one thing I advise all who are leaving a relationship...it's a psychological step, but very powerful...try to stop calling him your "my" anything. Refer to him as "the ex" instead of "my ex"...that way, you no longer see him as a part of you and rather an "it". It's simple, but it works! :D

Good Point!

He's not "my" anything! Never was! Great insight! As a matter of fact, in the beginning of this relationship, before I was broken down by "The N", I was so confident in his love that I referred to him and my ex-husband (to my girlfriends) as, "Thing One" & "Thing Two". So secure was I in how much he adored me, I could make this joke, thinking I was doing it affectionately. DUH.....

Jeez Syren, you are so right!

Jeez Syren, you are so right! I was 9 mos, swinging in the wind before I found this site, or even heard of NPD! My friends, who saved me, are sick, sick, sick of hearing her name, and are baffled why I would feel bad for a second about losing a bitch like that, anyway! I'm pretty baffled myself. at this point! AND, if hear "I Need You" by Lady Antebellum ever again, I'm going to shoot the radio!!! B

LOL! omfg AGAIN! THAT is the song that made me snap every time it came on. Oh hey, I'm drunk so let's hook up and screw...WTF! Yeah, I had that pleasant work environment, plus I had JUST moved and felt completely out of my element...JUST started at this job where the sappy music played all day...and had just ended a 7 year relationship...how I avoided the box o razor blades while all that was going on is beyond me. Yep, the friends don't get it...but bless their hearts for listening anyway! NOW we can laugh...

We understand Faith, 10 days

We understand Faith, 10 days is like yesterday in narc recovery. Your pain is well understood by all of us. Like Hunter says, "contact = pain" and it is true, regardless of their attitude with us. They will usually be either cold, discounting and mean or seem nice and even empathetic to our pain, which can hurt in a whole other way that might be even more potentially dangerous to our healing. If they seem sympathetic then doubt about them being 'so bad' for us is instilled and we stop believing in the truth about our actual experience through the guilt or blame they passively project onto us. No contact allows you to maintain YOUR perspective without him manipulating it otherwise. Welcome to the forum, (hugs)

Journey on...

I know how you feel!

I'm so sorry you are going through this. I wouldn't wish this on anyone. That pain is horrendous. All I can say is KNOW that this phase does come to an end. You WILL get through this. Knowing that I would come out the other side was one thing that kept me going. To keep me from contacting him I had to write page after page of the stupid and psycho things that he did and then re-read them. I kept reminding myself that I didn't want him anyway. Also, do kind things for yourself. Eat well, don't drink, exercise. You are your main focus and treat yourself like the precious gift that you are. Every love song that comes on the radio is about your love for yourself! Everything you do is with you in mind. I'm almost a year out. I have to have contact with the creep because of children. But after six months I broke free from the pain and suffering and since then, everyday, life just keeps getting better. I have my days. Any contact can set me back. But I'm quick to snap out of it. I'm happy again! And you will be too! Hang in there!

Writing down what he did

Lillymarch, The writing this is sooo key! The sad part? Over the last 3 years, in the midst of this awful journey, I would write down every crappy thing he ever said or did! Now, if you have to keep a journal detailing how awful someone is to you, wouldn't you think a relatively smart person would know that is a bad, bad sign? (of course I knew; I chose to ignore and blame myself)

I feel soothed

Friends, I cannot thank all of you enough for helping me tonight. All of a sudden my chest seems less tight and I know I can face my daughter without tears, and maybe we can watch a movie and laugh. There just aren't words, really. Thank you, Steve Jobs, or whomever for this wonderful thing called the internet. I'll be back tomorrow and the next day, and the next day. Faith1199

Cry it out, Faith! At 10 days

Cry it out, Faith! At 10 days out, you are in the worst of it. I know, I've been there, and it completely sucks. Hearing that time heals is not something you want to hear, but truly it does. You are very, very lucky to have found this support group. Stick with these women here, There is so much love and understanding here that it will help. I promise it will. It helped me no end. We ALL have been where you are and DO understand. Hang on, and never, never, never text him again. Listen what they tell you about no contact. It's truly the only way!! Big hug to you... B

Man, I know

You cannot know how you all have saved what might have been another night of endless hell. I hate that stupid phone! I beg, plead and cajole with myself not to send a stupid text! Not one text has been met with anything but a painful, N reply! I'm so disgusted with myself for being weak! Disgusted! I have such bigger issues to contend with in my life and I just can't believe this N has brought me to my knees! I'm so so so so incredibly grateful to have found this sight. I know in my heart it will help me through. Faith1199

Listen Faith. The most

Listen Faith. The most important thing is that you are NOT alone in this. Some of these women, here, are a year or two out, and really GET IT, but have been exactly where you are right now. Spill your guts to them, ask any questions or just rant and rave! You will find open arms and open hearts here just for you. You will get through this, I promise...

Cry honey, it is good to cry. You had a difficult experience as everyone here. It hurts like hell. I know. I have been there and could not imagine the pain will go away. And? 5 months out and... there is no pain anymore. It does get better. Cry, scream, go through your pain. Keep NC and I promise, it will get better! Love Winter

Thank You Thank You

I'm old enough to know better! I also knew that reaching out like this is the best thing I could do. I lost a child years ago and the only thing that kept me putting one foot in front of the other was a group like this. I can't thank you enough, I really can't.

I am so sorry for your loss

Faith, sweety, you are so young, not old! What is 43? Nothing! You see everything in dark right now. I truly believe a broke heart experience is one of the worst we can go through. When the narc is in the picture, the pain is unbearable. I lost my two parents quite young (mother - breast cancer, father- hit by a car). It was long time ago... I would never imagine the pain caused by a narc could be comparable... And still... The only thing which I can tell you is that it really does get better. Yes, it does. Love Winter

Seems So Crazy

Thanks, Winter, I feel like the replies I have received tonight will help me go face my 12-year-old daughter without tears so that she doesn't need to feel scared about "what's wrong with Mom?" To have lost a child (or parents at a young age) seems like the ultimate in devastation, but I've come to realize that in the agony of those experiences, no choices were made. No one made a choice that ultimately led to the loss. In this stupid love affair, I made so many, many ridiculous choices. So many choices that affected so many lives, and therefore the guilt, shame, hurt, and anger seem ten-fold. Thank you so, so much. Once again, it feels so good to know I can face this night knowing others understand. Thanks for the CPR. Faith1199

I didn't know any better!

And I was 58 when a 40 year old psychopath targeted me! I resisted him for a long time but stupidly gave in - you can guess the rest of my story. I do look younger and he looks older but the age difference was the huge red flag that bothered me from the start but not enough to stop me. How stupid was I? At my age? Give yourself a break. Like my friend says, they are experts at fooling us, they have had a lifetime of practice. Take delight in your daughter - she loves you and you can do and plan so many things together to take your mind off the soulless one. He will not have such a normal, loving relationship with ANYONE. My own daughters are much older but they have been so supportive and have been there for me to phone whenever I've felt low. Take care of yourself xx
