What makes you smile?

I am wondering....even in the midst of your struggles with recovery.....what people/things/events still manage to bring a smile to your face?

For me, I have pets....and their personalities always make me smile, at some point.

Also, I volunteer and my little shifts, always bring a smile to my face....(albeit, it's with animals that I volunteer with lol...what can I say, I am an animal lover lol)

I watch "American Idol"....don't hold it against me!....and the talent there, always makes me smile.....even when I'm having a crappy night.

There are many silly and quirky things that make me laugh....but I won't bore you with ALL of them! haha

But, I wanna know what makes YOU smile.

This recovery process is emotionally taxing, no doubt. We focus on the negative crap we feel ( which don't get me wrong, it's NECESSARY and healthy to do so ) BUT... I think we shouldn't forget about the things that DO bring us some element of joy ....even if it is just something "little"...it's still important:)

Ladies and gentlemen of the board.....what brings a smile to YOUR face??

Share it, you may make someone else here smile:)

xoxo

Thanks...I needed that

I appreciate this post - especially today - kind of a crappy day. As I write this, my dog is in his bed next to my chair snoring loudly - the sound makes me smile. He is my only roommate now. It's funny how my dog's snoring is soothing but when my exN did it, all I could think of was smothering him with a pillow....

lol. When you have the unconditional love that a dog gives....their quirks are cute.....when you put up with an abusive Narc, after awhile EVERYTHING they do makes your skin crawl! I hope you have a better evening and better day tomorrow:) xoxo What kind a dog is that snoring pal of yours?

Corgle

He is part Corgi and part Beagle. Corgi body with a beagle head screwed on. Some dickhead was trying to dump him on my road. That was in 2007 and I've had him ever since - he's the best! Do you have a pet?

Cats- best rebound ever!!!

After the final D&D 11 years ago, I made fast friends with my roommate's cat. It wasn't to last, but my roommate's cat was a source of consolation&unconditional love. Cats tend to be aloof, but her cat bonded with me.

My friends and family that

My friends and family that love me, accept me, and support me just because I'm me. They love me for just being the nerd that I really am. :) Reading a good book, or watching a movie, and knowing that my friends will talk (and laugh) with me about them because they've read, or seen, the same things and they can really relate with me. None of them will be acting bored or belittle my comments. Listening to my basset hound wallowing around in the dining room while he's dragging his face on the carpet, and making really strange noises always makes me smile. I've had to explain to people that if they should hear "RRRRRLLL!!! RRRRFLLLLLL!!! RRRLLLLLL!!! OOOOOOOF!!!!", it's probably not a monster behind the couch. It's just Otis. He's really talented, and can push himself around the house using only his back legs. His face stays on the floor the entire time. This includes turning corners and going in circles (along with full "sound effects"), and yes, I think he knows he's funny. If I imitate him, he gets louder and louder, and acts all proud of himself. When my allergies get really bad, I envy him. I'd love to drag my face around on the rug and make strange noises, too. lol.

Otis sounds like a riot!! "I'd love to drag my face around on the rug and make strange noises, too. lol." I'm just envisioning that scenario, and laughing lol xoxo

staying strong

what a great post and a great idea! first and foremost my 3 awesome grown daughters make me smile almost every day. they are intelligent, funny, independent and healthy! my cat who loves to play, freedom to watch french films and eat whatever i want, getting to laugh at a joke from my attorney in the middle of the most painful divorce after a 29 year marriage, going out with friends and coming home whenever, having the most amazing friends, my faith, my apartment decorated exactly the way i want it, but most of all....the news this past week that i'm going to be a grandma! these are the kinds of things that make me smile :-)

really??

Yes, Hunter, you make me smile but with my lips, not from my heart. It can't seem to move enough to smile. But I'm hoping, believing I'll get there. When he didn't talk to me for 2 and a half years, I never really smiled. It was all fake. Hopefully, this time I'll do better (which I think is the name of a song).

my yard, we got a pool a couple years ago and I worked VERY hard in the yard last year...when I moved out of the house, I was walking away from all that...so happy to be back and be able to go out and get my hands dirty again YOGA! I went an entire class w/out thinking of my N last night, I realized during final relaxation I'd been totally focused on me the whole class...yoga has helped me so much but I was NOT able to not think of him during class the last 4 months, until last night.

Everything Important

My family, friends -- people who stand by me genuinely with no ulterior motives. They are what make me smile. And cry with relief that they are in my life and not the narc! They are what is important. I love this thread. It reminds me that there is still good around.
