Keeping myself honest
Keeping myself honest
So, I broke up with the N (refuse to say "my N") two weeks ago and as some of you know, he's also my boss. I've had very limited contact with him and 3 whole days (sarcastic) without hearing from him. It's really been amazing how much clarity I got during that time.
I also just read "The Seducer" which while fictional, is psychological thriller about a narcissist. The author was also a victim and it's uncanny how well she captures their traits, mannerisms and one-liners…"you are the only woman for me." http://www.amazon.com/The-Seducer-Novel-Claudia-Moscovici/dp/0761858075.
Anyway…I can't do NC given our work situation (thankfully we work in different states) and have received good advice from this forum on not responding to personal texts. He started the texting Thursday night returning from a trip. "Thinking of you." "Flying back. I miss you." and then letting me know he landed (always does this when he travels).
So here's keeping me honest. I responded to his second text with "Safe travels". I know this is against protocol, but I almost feel like no contact is worse than being cordial. I also felt like I was sending a message by ignoring the "I miss you" portion of his text. Since I have to work with him, I just want to keep the dynamic cordial while reinforcing that it will never be personal again. If he persists with the "I miss you" stuff, then I will tell him simply that I won't respond to personal messages from him. Bottom line is I don't want to piss him off.
I know this might not make sense, but I really feel NC will trigger passive aggressive behavior in him at work. If I show him I've "still got his back" work-wise, but not give him any supply from an emotional standpoint, I think it will be better for me. Thoughts?
