Hoovering...what is the point for the Narc???

I am confused with Hoovering and the Narc's intent. My exN tried to do some of the Hoovering techniques that have been mentioned in this forum this past week. I guess what I find confusing is that I know he doesn't "care" about me, especially not in any normal way, so why doesn't he just let me go.

I'm sure that he has someone else on the side (he is married too) and he is a very outgoing and charismatic guy. He has loads of friends. With this in mind...WHY does he not let me go???

I need some insight.
