"Gaslight" with Ingrid Bergman

The husband in the movie was "gaslighting" his wife for a very specific reason: he wanted to have her declared mentally incompetent so that he could take over her considerable wealth. He was trying to steal her money! I was gaslighted (and had never heard the word or seen it in action) daily and after many years reflection, I STILL don't know why he would've done these things. I didn't have any money to steal. Although, yes he stole $ from my purse and told me it must have dropped out of my purse. He stole my contact lenses and threw them away, telling me he had given them to me. This forced me to have to wear an old prescription in my old ones. He told me things like I had gotten drunk and done stuff that didn't happen; I never did those things. He told me that someone's name was different than really was, he told me I might want to go to the doctor because I peed on him during sex. Etc, etc Why? Why? There is no reason that I could think of. What did he get out of this? If I was rich and he was trying to have me declared incompetent, I could see it. Otherwise, gaslighting is absolutely fucking baffling, baffling behavior. I was so naive, I thought he was telling the truth and that I was going batshit crazy.

It's so evil! It's the covert method of abusing, and sooooo hard to prove or even explain if you haven't been through it. You know what though? I just had this thought. These guys are SUCH complete COWARDS they have to be sneaky with *everything* ....even with the method they use to abuse us. COWARDS!!!! Yeah, YOU Narcboy! You are a little baby COWARD!!!! (wow, i feel a little better now.... )

'gaslighting' was the word that brought me to this site! Had heard about it, but only a vague idea of what it meant . . .
