Did your n like everything to be dark?

This Is a weird one to add to the list of my EXNs idiosyncrasies...
He liked the house to be very dark. In every house we lived in the blinds, roller shutters and curtains had to be closed, even on beautiful days. He said he wanted the place to feel like a cave... A lair more like it!
He also wanted the heater on ALL the time until it felt hot and stuffy.
If I opened any curtains he would always follow me and shut them. Odd ball.
Anyone else experience this?

mine

loved being in the dark as well...he was so proud our electric bill was so cheap...like literally $25 for a 2200 sq foot house...he also worked nights which is funny because when he was younger he owned a landscaping business..at some point he became a cop and I guess decided he wanted to just work nights, said he couldn't imagine working days.

Yes, xnh would just leave the blinds all pulled 24/7 if he could. It made the house feel like a tomb to me. I'm such a sunlight hog that this just about drove me nuts.

Dark and generic

The ex-Psych prof always wore dark/neutral clothes... his girlfriend did the same. He shared his office with another professor. His office mate had personalized his side with family pictures, artwork, it had *CHARACTER.* The ex-P's side of the office (that I only saw during the final D&D) was dark/neutral colors, generic. It had the spirit of a furniture showroom rather than an office. It would fit in better at IKEA than a college campus, IMHO. His office had ZERO personality. It had an empty air to it. It was like a black hole, sucking in energy&matter. Astrophysicists should study it to see if Santa Fe has a wormhole and bends time/space.

Wow...I never realized that

Wow...I never realized that one, but yes, mine did! He hated when I turned all the lights on, and definitely did like to keep the place dark if possible. There were days for sure it felt like a cave (and oddly enough - he loved bats) - and over time mine became almost totally nocturnal - up all night, sleep all day, curtains drawn/blinds closed/buried in the covers like a nest. There was one day I remember him sleeping in until 7 (yes, 7 PM) He only got up early if he had to and even then it was almost impossible - we would be late to pretty much everything - checking out of hotels, late to appointments or events and almost missed flights - due his inability to wake up. I personally though tend to think this all also was connected to his thinking that the world should revolve on his schedule.

Yes

Yes, the stbxnph (soon to be ex narc-psychopath husband) use to have a fit if I had the blinds open in the bedroom or the kitchen. He swore that the neighbors could see in the house and if I was getting dressed in the bedroom that the neighbors opposite us could see me naked. You would need binoculars to see. He was just crazy!

He had

one room that he always left the blinds down, it was always dark because he did not want to see the neighbors house, he had bullied the man once, it was patheitc as they are both in their 60;s and he did not like the man for some reason. Now he lives in ahouse with a huge privacy fence in back so he doesn't have to see anyone

The only time I saw him it was dark!

I only saw my N one time as ours was mostly a Long Distance thing. We met on Dec. 23rd...2 days after the Winter Solstice. It was dark outside when we met, went into a dark bar for drinks, and then to his place where he had minimal lighting. I realized I really didn't get to look at him in full light the entire time. After learning about this condition and how he treated me, he didn't care what I looked like. Also, he was hiding how unattractive he is!!!!

Blinds

Same here! All blinds shut. Kitchen pitch black. I would come over and open blinds in den and kitchen. Both of his cars in the garage. You can never tell if he's home at night. And before bed he woyld turn on the deck light and look outside and then check his double locked front door and open the door that leads to the garage to make sure garage was down. (It's always down the second he pulls his car in) He was very mysterious and he acted weird.
