The Covert Narcissist

When I think of the covert arcississt the word cunning quickly comes to mind. Cunning goes back to 1275 A.D., middle English origin. "Cunning implies a shrewd, often instinctive skill in concealing or disguising the real purposes of one's actions." This fits the stealthy thinking and behavior of the covert narcissist. I visualize the covert naracissist as an animal who must stalk and kill or die. Unlike his grandiose, expansive partner, the high level narcissist, the covert narcissist sits in a dark corner, keeps his counsel and decides when and how to strike the mortal blow.
