Another narcissist in the news

Hi everyone. Have you been following the Clark Rockefeller child abduction trial? I think it's in NY. Anyway, a couple of days ago, I was watching a TV news report on it (first I'd heard of it) and the reporter was editorializing a bit about how his wife, a very successful executive could have fallen for this con artist (his name isn't Rockefeller...it's an alias he chose because he thought it would make him seem rich and important). Anyway, as I listened more to the report--about his wife's claims that he controlled her in the marriage, was a chronic liar, abusive, etc. and the bells went off. I thought after just listening for a few minutes "I'll bet he's a narcissist!". So, I just googled his name and narcissist and low and behold, he has been diagnosed with extreme NPD. Of course, in typical N fashion, he's using NPD as a reason for abducting his daughter and a mental illness defense.

Anyway, I thought this quote from his ex wife (daughter's mother) was interesting. She's attempting to explain how she got hoodwinked by her ex narc.

"It's pretty obvious that I had a blind spot. All I'm saying is that it's possible that one can be brilliant and amazing in one area of one's life and pretty stupid in another."

I wish she'd chosen a different word than "stupid"...like "vulnerable"...but I think she makes a good point. And I hope this case will serve to further bring this evil disorder out into the public consciousness.

Still No Verdict

Jurors in the kidnapping trial of the man who calls himself Clark Rockefeller on Tuesday finished a second day of deliberations without reaching a verdict. The jury of eight women and four men started deliberating shortly after noon Monday and spent all day Tuesday discussing the case. Deliberations were to resume Wednesday. Defense lawyers say Rockefeller, whose real name is Christian Karl Gerhartsreiter, was delusional and legally insane when he fled with his 7-year-old daughter, Reigh, during a supervised visit in Boston last July. Father and daughter were found in Baltimore six days later. The girl was unharmed. Prosecutors call his insanity claim "preposterous" and say he planned the kidnapping for months after losing custody of the girl to his ex-wife in their divorce. The trial featured testimony from people who recounted elaborate tales the German-born Gerhartsreiter told about himself during the three decades he has lived in the United States. Besides pretending to be a member of the famous Rockefeller clan, he claimed to be a physicist, ship's captain, art collector and debt negotiator for small countries. After his arrest in his daughter's kidnapping, authorities in California identified Gerhartsreiter as a "person of interest" in the disappearance and presumed slayings of Jonathan and Linda Sohus, a newlywed couple from San Marino, Calif. Gerhartsreiter, who was then using the name Christopher Chichester, was staying in a guest house on the couple's property when they disappeared. Yes, I remember hearing about this guy a few years ago because he had conned all kinds of people in the Hampton's out of their fortunes. Seriously, it didn't get a lot of press because the people who blindly invested with him thinking he was really a Rockefeller were so embarassed by their stupidity that they didn't press charges. I remember thinking: "this guy is a raging narcissist!" And now, he's using NPD as a defense?! Unfrickinbelievable! Talk about delusional! This guy goes around pretending to be a Rockefeller for years thinking he won't get caught. Crazy thing is he didn't get caught for awhile at least. I'm glad the law has finally caught up with him. This is just further fodder for the term I often like to use to refer to the narcissist: "CON-ARTIST" They are con-artists in the truest sense of the word!

Yes, they are con-artists--all of them! But even the guy's psychologist who diagnoses him with NPD says he's so far on the continuum scale (meets all 9 criteria--every one of them!). He's even suspected in the disappearance of an couple he used to live with. I think he'll get tagged with that one eventually. I think he is truly a psychopath. And also, it said in his early days of conning, he went by a different alias and actually used the social security number of the suspected Son of Sam killer to secure these jobs. I'll bet he laughed maniacally each time he provided that SS # and nobody checked it. Scary N/psychopath!

This dude's a stone-cold psychopath. And Dr. Keith Ablow is a real blow-hard who steals the work of other psychologists (like Sandra Brown) and passes it off as his own, too - a total media whore. Psycho-Boy to this day (5 years later) tells people I "KNOWINGLY PLAYED HIS GAME WITH" him. WTF??? He is a PSYCHOPATH of the highest order. And everyone wants to blame the wife.
