Had a weird encounter with my ex narc.

Was leaving for a weekend vacation with my son and mother. At the airport, once I made it through to my gate I decided to get a coffee from Starbucks. While in line, I received a text from my narc. " Hi. Should have come up to say hello to you and your family. sorry. I hope you are going somewhere fun. Good seeing you even if from afar. " I did not respond. My son did see him and said he was going to the gate next to ours leaving for Nantucket and he was seated next to a woman who he was talking with. I ignored him by not replying. When I returned from my weekend trip, my sister informed me that Monday evening he requested she add him to her linked in Network. She ignored and reported not knowing him so he couldn't send another invite. Could someone please tell me why he would even bother contacting me when he was w/someone else and why he would contact my sister? I don't get what he is trying to achieve. He looks foolish.
