I almost wet my pants. "What is that strange non-negative, non-vapid, warm, pleasant feeling? And please make it go away!"

I'm so glad you posted this. If only we could get this into our heads. I remember a long, long time ago, before anything really went wrong, I was saying something to the narc about something, trying to convince him of something, and he just wasn't responding. He finally said, "You know honey, I really just see your mouth moving." Right at the end, too, when we last "talked" to try to rectify things, he just stared at me while I stated my position, the things I want, my right to pursue a relationship in which I was loved and cherished. I finally said, "You're just watching me to see when I finish talking, aren't you? You have no idea what I'm talking about." He just sighed and said, "Are we made up now? Time to smooch?" I think this is the reason I first started screaming at him: I think I irrationally believed that he literally wasn't hearing me and that if I screamed he would. Nope.

helldweller, about screaming louder

My nephew has hearing loss because of a virus in utero. His nerve endings didn't develop, so there is nothing there to RECEIVE the sounds. So you could shout at the top of your lungs and he would not be able to hear you. You could get the most expensive hearing aid available, and he would not be able to hear you. There is no way for his ears to send the sounds to his brain. Think of it that way. There's nothing there to receive the signal, no matter how loud or clear it is, no matter what frequency it is.

wierd...this hearing loss is exactly what my son has. very sad.. but now he is majoring in biomedical engineering and wants to develop a hearing device for people with no nerve endings.
