Bodhi

Yes, isn't "Seven Years" one of the most intense songs you have ever heard?! The lyrics are amazing and to sing it aloud is so healing. Glad you found it helpful, Bodhi! xoxo

i'm not sure if this is a narc song

Coming home today I heard this song by Pink. I really like the melody. What caught my attention was the part "you called me sugar" (who doesn't love to feel special?)and "hated yourself for staring at the phone." (realizing you are hooked and it's unhealthy). It just reminds me of how easy it is to lose yourself sometimes and how we need to stay grounded early on in relationships of any kind. "Glitter In The Air" Have you ever fed a lover with just your hands? Closed your eyes and trusted, just trusted? Have you ever thrown a fist full of glitter in the air? Have you ever looked fear in the face and said, "I just don't care"? It's only half past the point of no return The tip of the iceberg The sun before the burn The thunder before the lightning The breath before the phrase Have you ever felt this way? Have you ever hated yourself for staring at the phone? You're whole life waiting on the ring to prove you're not alone Have you ever been touched so gently you had to cry? Have you ever invited a stranger to come inside? It's only half past the point of oblivion The hourglass on the table The walk before the run The breath before the kiss And the fear before the flames Have you ever felt this way? La La La La La La La La There you are, sitting in the garden Clutching my coffee, Calling me sugar You called me sugar Have you ever wished for an endless night? Lassoed the moon and the stars and pulled that rope tight? Have you ever held your breath and asked yourself will it ever get better than tonight? Tonight

"Not the Doctor" by Alanis Morissette

I dont want to be the filler if the void is solely yours I dont want to be your glass of single malt whiskey Hidden in the bottom drawer I dont want to be the bandage if the wound is not mine Lend me some fresh air I dont want to be adored for what I merely represent to you I dont want to be to be your babysitter Youre a very big boy now I dont want to be you mother I didnt carry you in my womb for nine months Show me the back door (chorus) Visiting hours are 9 to 5 and if I show up at half past six Well I already know that youd find some way to sneak me in and oh Mind the empty bottle with the holes along the bottom You see its too much to ask for and Im not the doctor I dont want to be the sweeper of the eggshells that you walk upon I dont want to be your other half I believe that 1 and 1 make 2 I dont want to be your food or the light from the fridge On your face at midnight Hey what are you hungry for I dont want to be the glue that holds your pieces together I dont want to be your idol See this pedestal is high and Im afraid of heights I dont want to be lived through A vicarious occasion Please open the window (repeat chorus) I dont want to live on someday when my motto is last week I dont want to be responsible for your fractured heart And its wounded beat I dont want to be a substitute for the smoke youve been inhaling What do you thank me What do you thank me for

Uninvited

"Uninvited" by Alanis Morissette Like anyone would be I am flattered by your fascination with me Like any hot blooded woman I have simply wanted an object to crave But you're not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slight Must be strangely exciting To watch the stoic squirm Must be somewhat heartening To watch shepard meet shepard But you're not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slight Like any uncharted territory I must seem greatly intriguing You speak of my love like You have experienced like mine before But this is not allowed You're uninvited An unfortunate slight

King of Anything - Sara Bareilles

Great song for those who have lived through controlling Ns! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qmIu4sV1y8s&feature=related Keep drinking coffee, stare me down across the table While I look outside So many things I’d say if only I were able But I just keep quiet and count the cars that pass by You’ve got opinions, man We’re all entitled to ‘em, but I never asked So let me thank you for your time, and try not to waste any more of mine And get out of here fast I hate to break it to you babe, but I’m not drowning There’s no one here to save Who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything? You sound so innocent, all full of good intent Swear you know best But you expect me to jump up on board with you And ride off into your delusional sunset I’m not the one who’s lost with no direction But you’ll never see You’re so busy making maps with my name on them in ALL CAPS You got the talking down, just not the listening And who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything? All my life I’ve tried to make everybody happy While I just hurt and hide Waiting for someone to tell me it’s my turn to decide Who cares if you disagree? You are not me Who made you king of anything? So you dare tell me who to be? Who died and made you king of anything? Let me hold your crown, babe.

Carrie Underwood

Carrie Underwood definitely sounds like she's been with a narc. She also sings that "Undo It" song that also really sounds like a narc. "Undo It" I should have known by the way you passed me by There was something in your eyes and it wasn't right I should have walked but I never had the chance Everything got out of hand and I let it slide Now I only have myself to blame for falling for your stupid games I wish my life could be the way it was before I saw your face You stole my happy, you made me cry Took the lonely and took me for a ride And I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it You had my heart, now I want it back I'm starting to see everything you lack Boy, you blew it, you put me through it I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it Na, na, na, na, na Na, na, na, na, na Na, na, na, na, na, na Now your photos don't have a picture frame And I never say your name and I never will And all your things, well I threw them in the trash And I'm not even sad Now you only have yourself to blame for playing all those stupid games You're always gonna be the same and, oh no, you'll never change You stole my happy, you made me cry Took the lonely and took me for a ride And I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it You had my heart, now I want it back I'm starting to see everything you lack Boy, you blew it, you put me through it I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it Na, na, na, na, na Na, na, na, na, na Na, na, na, na, na, na You want my future, you can't have it I'm still trying to erase you from my past I need you gone so fast You stole my happy, you made me cry Took the lonely and took me for a ride And I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it You had my heart, now I want it back I'm starting to see everything you lack Boy, you blew it, you put me through it I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it You stole my happy, you made me cry Took the lonely and took me for a ride Boy, you blew it, you put me through it I wanna uh-uh-uh-uh-uh-undo it

You're so Vain by Carly Simon says it all

You walked into the party like you were walking onto a yacht Your hat strategically dipped below one eye Your scarf it was apricot You had one eye in the mirror as you watched yourself gavotte And all the girls dreamed that they'd be your partner They'd be your partner, and... You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't You? You had me several years ago when I was still quite naive Well you said that we made such a pretty pair And that you would never leave But you gave away the things you loved and one of them was me I had some dreams, they were clouds in my coffee Clouds in my coffee, and... You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't You? Don't You? I had some dreams they were clouds in my coffee Clouds in my coffee, and... You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't You? Well I hear you went up to Saratoga and your horse naturally won Then you flew your lear jet up to Nova Scotia To see the total eclipse of the sun Well you're where you should be all the time And when you're not you're with Some underworld spy or the wife of a close friend Wife of a close friend, and... You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, I'll bet you think this song is about you Don't you? Don't You? Don't you? You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you You're so vain, you probably think this song is about you

"You're So Vain says it all." Absolutely! I sang this song when I recorded my CD of Catharsis, as I like to call it. :) I LOVE that we're talking about the healing power of music. I absolutely love Pink and Sarah McLachlan. Two of my favorite artists, next to Tori Amos. Music is so moving to me. I love talking about it.

I’m better off without you by Tyrone Wells

I almost don’t remember The way it used to be The way you used to whisper You belonged to me You belonged to me I'm better off without you Except for when I sleep I'm better off without you Besides the time I breath I keep telling myself Maybe one day I'll believe That I'm better off without you And I'd never think about you Better off without you I saw you on the sidewalk And I'd thought I caught your eye And I wondered if you loved him As I watched you both walk by As I watched you just walk by I'm better off without you Except for when I sleep I'm better off without you Besides the time I breath I keep telling myself Maybe one day I'll believe That I'm better off without you And I'd never think about you Better off without you Looking at a photograph of you, you're laughing I'm standing by your side I remember you were wearing my favorite perfume How could you forget about the time you told me I was your only joy Now when you want to smile, What do you do, what do you do I'm better off without you Except for when I sleep I'm better off without you Besides the time I breath I keep telling myself Maybe one day I'll believe That I'm better off without you And I'd never think about you Better off without you

Paramore

Here is one I heard at church, of all places. "Playing God" Can't make my own decisions Or make any with precision Well maybe you should tie me up So I don't go where you don't want me You say that I been changing that I'm not just simply aging Yeah how could that be logical? Just keep on cramming ideas down my throat You don't have to believe me But the way I, way I see it Next time you point a finger I might have to bend it back Or break it, break it off Next time you point a finger I'll point you to the mirror If God's the game you're playing Well we must get more acquainted Because it has to be so lonely To be the only one who's holy It's just my humble opinion But it's one that I believe in You don't deserve a point of view If the only thing you see is you You don't have to believe me But the way I, way I see it Next time you point a finger I might have to bend it back Or break it, break it off Next time you point a finger I'll point you to the mirror This is the last second chance (I'll point you to the mirror) I'm half as good as it gets (I'll point you to the mirror) I'm on both sides of the fence (I'll point you to the mirror) Without a hint of regret I'll hold you to it I know you don't have to believe me But the way I, way I see it Next time you point a finger I might have to bend it back Or break it, break it off Next time you point a finger I'll point you to the mirror I know you won't have to believe me But the way I, way I see it Next time you point a finger I might have to bend it back Or break it, break it off Next time you point a finger I'll point you to the mirror

i dont want to depress anyone in the early stages of recovery

but after my husband walked out, and I was still conditioned to be a perfect N supply source and WORSHIPPED the ground he walked on, i took some masochistic pleasure in "long, long time' by linda ronstant: Love will abide, take things in stride Sounds like good advice but there's no one at my side And time washes clean love's wounds unseen That's what someone told me but I don't know what it means. Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time Caught in my fears Blinking back the tears I can't say you hurt me when you never let me near And I never drew one response from you All the while you fell all over girls you never knew Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine And I think it's gonna hurt me for a long long time Wait for the day You'll go away Knowing that you warned me of the price I'd have to pay And life's full of flaws Who knows the cause? Living in the memory of a love that never was Cause I've done everything I know to try and change your mind and I think I'm gonna miss you for a long long time Cause I've done everything I know to try and make you mine And I think I'm gonna love you for a long long time.

also...

You took your coat off and stood in the rain, You were always crazy like that I watched from my window, Always felt I was outside looking in on you You were always the mysterious one With dark eyes and careless hair, You were fashionably sensitive, but too cool to care Then you stood in my doorway, with nothing to say Besides some comment on the weather Well in case you failed to notice, In case you failed to see, This is my heart bleeding before you, This is me down on my knees CHORUS These foolish games are tearing me apart Your thoughtless words are breaking my heart You're breaking my heart You were always brilliant in the morning Smoking your cigarettes, talking over coffee Your philosophies on art, Baroque moved you, You loved Mozart and you'd speak of your loved ones As I clumsily strummed my guitar You'd teach me of honest things Things that were daring, things that were clean Things that knew what an honest dollar did mean. So I hid my soiled hands behind my back Somewhere along the line I must've gone off track with you Excuse me, think I've mistaken you for somebody else Somebody who gave a damn, Somebody more like myself CHORUS You took your coat off and stood in the rain You were always crazy like that
