If they are such good liars....why do they always get caught?

In the midst of my recovery, I am just confused with this thought, have you all thought about this...
If N's are such good liars, then how come they always get caught in their lies or with OW affairs???
I struggle with the fact that my N is highly intelligent, successful, and has a lot of resources at his disposal so if he is such a great con man you would think he would have the capacity to hide the affair/OW and also have some common sense in regards to some of the lies he told, for example faking a concussion since i could have easily call the hospital (ofcourse i didnt...go figure).
If I didnt know any better, I almost would say he wanted to be caught the way it went down....but then when he was caught, he kept lying telling me he loves me until he just completely disappeared the next day...so i guess he didnt want to be caught?!?
I am starting to understand why many of you now refer to this whole experience as a mindf***.
