Have any of you ladies experienced computer hijacking from the narcissists in your life? If so, what legal remedies did you seek to ensure that this didn't occur in the future?
I was sent email by a fake acct which contained my personal name in the @ address including the my nick name and last name initial as the sender of this unwanted email...it was sent to two of my accts - he is the only one aware of both email accts that I have and is the only one to ever double send emails to said accts.
In email harassment from unknown accounts, an email trace service may be helpful . For example, if it is an email from an acct you do not recognize, the headers reveal the origin in most cases. Sometimes the trace will locate the exact machine used to send the email and the physical location from which it came on google map.
I reported the use of my name in the made up acct to the host. They took action against the user. They will not reveal the action taken. You have to file with the PD and request a subpoena to the host in order to discover the identity for certain. Then contact a lawyer with the info and determine the legal action available pursuant to the offense and so forth.
You will need help in the entire process by professionals to obtain accurate information and legal advise.
As Hunter said - Geek Squad can remove the KSL
my ex never checked or cared what i was up to
i on the other hand used to stalk him daily once i found out he cheated. it was like an addiction to me. i had to find more evidence all the time
how you would really know if your computer had been hacked - I am pretty basic with my comp skills and don't think I would necessarily know if I had......
Can anyone advise ?
Right before I left Dr Psychopants, I discovered key logging software had been installed on my computer.
I went to a computer repair shop and they removed it, and provided me with documentation that it had been there (for use in court, if necessary, but it never came to that).
I never told Dr. Psycho about it.
Because I will no longer accept email attachments from him, he screams about it: saying that it is evidence that 1. I'm paranoid and over reactive, etc 2. That he would never know how to install spyware (even though he can figure anything out about computers.)
I have never accused him or informed him of anything, except that I won't accept attachments fot securty reasons.
"I have nothing to hide except my genius"!! Or at least I think that's what he said - OK, OK so I don't know if it WAS Oscar Wilde. What I mean is if some sad bastard has nothing better to do with his/her time than 'infiltrate' my computer and find out what size knickers I've ordered or something equally fascinating - then good for them. I hope they find it illuminating and life-affirming.
Maybe I'm getting old & cranky, but I really don't give a do-what if Mr Creepy Arse is or isn't hacking. I've got all me malware/spyware/anti virus malarkey installed. What more can one do? Flo x
Call the Geek Squad !! Have your computer looked at by professionals!!
If you have a leaky faucet you call the Plumber.,
This is no different!
Just recently I git a message that my PW had been changed on my gmail account. I had not changed it. I had to create a new PW to get into my mail.I thought of my ex N right away but since he has ignored me completely since he left me for another woman 6 months ago, that wouldn't really make sense. He did house sit for me when I went to see my parents, and if he snooped he could have found where I had my PW written down. I don't know who changed my PW, but it was not me.
I have had signs that my FB & email were 'hacked' and I know for certain that my EX has created false profiles etc to try to become 'friends' with me on my FB and so has his new GF. Also it appears my EX has subscribed me to all sorts of 'newsletters' and advertisements using my email.
How do you know if your whole computer has been hijacked? Do you just suspect it? How would your EX have access to it? I talked to a computer expert and he told me that although it seems everyone is suspicious of everyone 'hacking' into their stuff these days, it isn't that easy to do. Sometimes things really are coincidence. Unless your EX had direct access and use of your computer and knew how to download special programs directly onto your computer, it is unlikely they actually hijacked it. People can find out plenty of info about someone else on the internet without hacking anything, and the rest is just good guessing or coincidence maybe making it seem like your EX 'knows' too much...
...perhaps he/she simply 'Heard it Thru the Grapevine'
