Hi Everyone!
First of all, I just celebrated 120 days NC and I want to thank all of you, as it would not have been possible without this forum and its infinite wisdom.
Second and more importantly, I have a question to pose:
Did anyone else ever notice that your Narc would constantly and unabashedly look at themselves/check themselves out whenever they passed a mirror or reflective pane of glass, etc. etc.?
I know it's a little detail, but as my awareness of this whole sickness evolves I'm starting to see how even the littlest things mattered.
I'm just wondering if it wasn't just another early red flag that I shouldn't have dismissed...

He made my self esteem zero so now it's as if I check to see that I'm still attractive. I'm 23 and when he was with me I was 22 and he would say things like I needed anti wrinkle cream and that he should trade me in for a younger model
Mine didn't look in the mirror !

Hmmm... yes, all three of the Ps had the habit... one particularly liked talking to people and watching himself in the a shop window that was near our office...all the time.
Another like I posted on the things that now make you laugh was with one of them admiring himself in the mirror and asking why I didn't find him irresitable, as everyone else did?! yuk... But everytime after doing the deed, yes, he was gaze admiringly at himself in the mirror as soon as he could get to it!
Well, guess that's why they are called Narcissists... just like the myth. Interestingly, it was Nemesis for those that don't know who led Narcissus to the pond where he was fixated on his image and died there. Also, interestingly enough, it was my exP that called me his nemesis..... ha!
If you're interested in the whole Greek mythology thing, have a look up on hubris... and again, it's incredibly relevant to the Ns and Ps.

I thought I'd throw in my two cents. After a while my ExN decided to grow his hair out. When I met him it was still basically military cut. He asked my opinion, I said "It's your hair" Anyway....after it started past his shoulders he would do this Farrah Faucett hair toss in the mirror all the time (totally ridiculous). Anyway, it wasn't until he grew out his locks that the mirror thing started. I found it quite amusing and a little time consuming. But you know what? Today I don't even care! Rock on Shawn Cassidy....have fun with your mirror :)

In regard to the question I do think some are very consumed with their looks; mine definitely was. However, I also know a lot of people who take quite an interest in their looks and some are quite vain. This, though, doesn't mean they have NPD.
Keep working on you and of course stay true!

July 7, 2012 - 12:56am — LindsayMOn the NC and my ex was always obsessed with his looks in fact he would project it onto me sometimes if he felt fat he would say I would say I was fat. My ex was always looking in the mirror all the time 24/7 if there was a mirror he was looking at it he was always fixing his hair putting hairspray on it just so it was perfect.
