Does anybody have any experience with this specific type of disorder. I am working thru this crap and my counselor threw this term at me today and I was clueless.

Rusty gal ask your therapist

I think you should ask your therapist to help you with exactly what she was referring to. All of these disorders are serious and though they may have overlapping characteristics, they are different.

Talk to her please.

They are very similiar and often you will find

they are "co-morbid"
In other words, they overlap, as someone else said here.
Mine definitely fit. She would go into histrionics often.
A fender bender car wreck was a four car pile where she "was almost killed" (she walked away without a scratch).
A minor outpatient procedure to burn or freeze a funny mole to her was open heart surgery.
It goes hand in hand with NPD, just another cluster B.
Borderline also are prone to histronic behavior, again, most all the cluster B disorders are comorbid with others.
I think this might be helpful to you. It was one of the first articles I ever read after finding our site here and it sure helped me!

A light bulb so bright went on in my brain I had to put me shades on.

Peace and healing. xx, Rose

That link was awesome! It was as if the author was writing word for word what happened. Very validating. Thank you.

It is alot like NPD

It is alot like NPD. When you google Personality Disorders you will see it on the list along with Sociopath, NPD, PD, Physcopath etc. the Mayo Clinic link that shows up at one of the first link choices has a lot of information. This is how I found out about this website. I googled PD at the urging of my therapist and started reading and having stopped! That was almost a year ago!!!!!! My EXN seems to have a lot of all of the PD on that link, but he has more of the NPD, Sociopath, Physcopath and possibly bi-polar...lots of highs and lows, but it's hard to pin point exactly because they over lap so much! Good Luck!

It's this disorder where I think mostly women get it, but apparently they use inappropriate sexual gestures and advances to get attention. I've heard Anna Nicole Smith had it

Histrionic... hysteria...

Histrionic... hysteria... hysterical.

The NARC/pimp in my life is prone to histrionics. He can make nothing into SOMETHING.
How a spider up in the corner of the bedroom becomes him shivering shaking and sobbing and wailing about ...Ohhh...I don't know...the time he was raped to by 2 guys 20 years ago.
How asking him to take the garbage out when he goes turns into him ranting and screaming about how when he was 4 he carried a dead puppy around not knowing it was dead and how no one told him.
ANY reason at all to over act and dramatize "emotions" I guess to PROVE that he feels them. Who can question the sincerity of the emotions of a crying man who says he was raped?

Histrionic you mean? Wasn't

Histrionic you mean? Wasn't that a Freudian concept?
And that sums up the extent of my knowledge on the topic :-)
