Fighting for them can be exhausting - but it is never in vain.

The top 7 ways Barbara has shaped my life in just a brief time
1) she has taught me to live in reality and accept what is
2) how to stand up for myself and how to protect myself and my child
3) what is really important and why it is important
4) how not to quite or give up when I am at my wits end
5) that I am sane -- which has helped to remind me that I am kind, generous, loving and funny
6) that I am not alone on this really hard journey
7) she has inspired me to be good to myself
I know I am just a woman on the internet and don't come close to the thoughts of your children as they are everything to you and they will always be there with you, but don't underestimate what you do outside of your home and your family -- it is just as powerful. You are saving us and our children and hopefully setting us up to get letters like that when they, too, are old enough if they are not already old enough.
I am going to print that letter and look to it in the hopes that one day my little Sophie will feel similarly -- then I know it was all worth it.

I'm new here, Barbara ... I can't thank you enough for the things you share here with us.
I just recently realized I've been involved with a N, and also that my parent is one. This is all so shocking to learn, abit hard to accept. Sometimes, I find myself wanting to slip back into denial (to relieve the emotional pain), but then I come back here and manage to stumble onto something else I need to read ... often in your posts ... that snaps me back into reality again.
I want free of the denial, free of the fantasy thinking that somehow one day these persons will be "okay". I realize now, they will not ever be.
But I am not a young women (middle aged), and I have been trying nearly all my lifetime to figure out this situation with my mother. There's always been so much pain between us that I did not understand, no matter how hard I tried to make things right between us. It has taken my getting romantically involved with a very obvious N to see the same patterns in my mother, and to begin to understand why I've been such an easy "narc target" all my life.
Since this thread has been about "celebrating" your life, I thought I would add my thanks to it, express my appreciation for what you do here. It's helping persons like me.
May lots of love, joy, and peace be yours in the coming year!
