Hi ladies,
As you know, one of the things that helps me heal is to educate and warn others about the dangers of falling in love with a narcissist. I see that same desire in all of you, which is why this forum has developed into the warm, compassionate place I always dreamed it would be where we can share our feelings and be understood.
I mentioned starting a support group call. The reason for this is two-fold. First, I have led support groups before and I think it would be interesting to see if it can be done over the phone. The more I think about it, however, I do see some challenges. The second reason, which is my main reason right now, for wanting a call is because I would love for all of us to put our heads together on an idea I have.
Ok, so you know I find exposing narcissists for who they really are and warning other women before they get hurt to be very healing and cathartic. Unfortunately, narcissism is still a topic very few people are aware of or fully understand. Therefore, it is my desire to build as much awareness as possible.
I think, as a team, we could put our heads together and come up with a platform for a web-based weekly video show to educate people on this topic. I'm in the process of turning my living room into a studio. I have a great view of the Chicago skyline with the Trump Tower at center stage and have always wanted to host a radio show or talk show.
The idea I have for the name of the show is "Get It Out Girl" because, as you know, I believe it's important to get our feelings out. We must have an outlet, whether it be talking to others, writing, listening to music or simply crying it out. We have to get it out. The album I'm going to soon release is titled "Gotta Get It Out" and I just purchased the domain name www.getitoutgirl.com, which would complement this site and be the main page for the web-cast show.
I think humor is a great way to heal and one of the topics for the weekly show could be "Narcissists in the News" where I would report on the top five narcissists in the news that week. We can call them the "Fabulous Five" or something. I could also play music, like we have on the music thread we started and I could read poems and take phone calls from people who have questions. The whole idea is to create a "buzz" around what narcissism is and how to recognize it. We would just be doing it in a funny, humorous and healing way. I have a meeting tomorrow with a licensed psychologist friend who I would have as either my co-host or, depending on her interest, my recurring guest host with credentials.
But, I can't do this without all of you, your energy and your wisdom in this area. I'll set-up the studio, record the shows, post the videos and deal with the technology, but I'd love your help in developing the content. I believe we have a group of women on this website who TRULY understand narcissism and all its implications. Together, we can develop a really good platform for a weekly show, full of humor, wisdom and support....for women and by women. An eventual outcome might be to get a radio or television slot down the line, but the overall goal is to blow up this topic so everyone knows what a narcissist is and how to spot one.
So the conference call I'd like to have is really to talk to those of you who may be interested in joining me in this effort. If you like to write, you could write weekly content. If you have a great sense of humor, you could write narc jokes. If you love music, like Betteroff, you could be in charge of the music. If you have great psychological knowledge and background, like Barbara, you could be in charge of writing the weekly update on that subject. We would all be writers essentially and if you don't have a fear of speaking in public, you could be a co-host on the show whenever you'd like.
This is such an intelligent, funny and compassionate group of strong-minded women that I know we could come up with so much content for a weekly half hour show and it would be so fun and healing, wouldn't it?! I work full-time and can't do this alone. If any of you are interested, please let me know and I'll set up a call to get us started. I have a contractor coming to my home Friday morning to give me an estimate on turning my living room into a studio. I'm ready if you are ladies!!!!
Best,
Lisa
You are very welcome Lisa
March 28, 2009 - 12:23am — Barbara (not verified)Blago would be a laugh riot. Though I would have a hard time not laughing in his face.
He's writing a book you know so he's got something to promote.
He reminds me SOOOOO much of Peter Cook (Christie Brinkley's ex) - never their fault. Never.
Blago might say no though if he knows what you are doing it for.
I don't want to dictate what you do & don't do. But I have learned some things about people who prey on victims in the last 5 years. People like Vaknin or other website owners or those promising cures and quick healing with no credentials. Hard knocks taught me who I would trust, as a victim and who is just as exploitive as the Ns & Ps. So please, I hope you don't think I am trying to tell you what to do. You could throw me out of here - it's your site. I just have very strong feelings & experiences about certain people and don't want to see victims re-victimized like I was by some of them.
I am going to open a site soon to do online coaching for victims. I need to raise the money to get my counseling certification and I might as well help others while doing so. I just want to pay it forward.
My own therapist was murdered in a highly publicized case in Feb. 2008. I am doing this for her. She literally saved my life. Hopefully I can save someone else's.

Just so you know.
March 26, 2009 - 8:55pm — Barbara (not verified)I apologize up front but I feel really strongly about this based on some personal experience and the experience of some of the women I have counseled (which has been the same)
If Vaknin's IN - I am OUT. The man needs to be AVOIDED.

There are other information resources and experts on narcissism that are so much healthier and healing for victims.

March 26, 2009 - 11:38pm — Barbara (not verified)O.K. just warning you.
And the site is Don't DATE Him Girl (www.dontdatehimgirl.com) - has nothing to do with forgiveness and everything to do with exposing them. Which I am totally for. But I just know about some of the personalities that run these sites and Tasha Joseph, who owns DDHG - is very territorial and I would hate to see her make legal trouble for you.
You know us Mother-types. We worry. ;)
I have been around the net and these people 'supposedly' in the field for a little while now. There's some pretty selfish, nasty personalities out there. If you want to write to me off-list, Lisa I might be able to help you steer away from the self-promoters to people who are truly interested in helping victims.
BTW - I do not believe in forgiving Narcs.
Forgiving yourself - YES. Them? Hell, No ;)

Update to conference call
March 28, 2009 - 12:32am — Lisa E. ScottYou all have such great ideas and I am thrilled some of you are interested in helping with this project. I don't want anyone to steal our good ideas so I'm going to delete this thread soon. Therefore, those of you interested in developing/producing this show with me, please e-mail me at lisalou2@gmail.com.
I will set up a conference call in a week or so. I would do it right away, but the psychologist who will be the recurring guest host isn't free until Monday, April 6th to participate in the call. Plus, I need to look into some things and do lots of homework before we go down this path full speed ahead. I am ready to go, but want to be prepared for our call and consult a few people first.
That said, please e-mail me if you are interested and let me know your availability on April 6th for a call. Going forward, let's just discuss the show ideas via e-mail and conference call. I will delete this thread soon. Thanks and can't wait to work on this with all you lovely and inspiring ladies!
Best,

March 26, 2009 - 2:53pm — Barbara (not verified)I used to be an actor and a comedy writer so as long as my disability lets me (and my kids' schedules) I would be happy to do it. Writing a weekly or bi-weekly column would be great.
As for Trump - yep - he's got to be the BIGGEST Narc in NYC. He's not a psychopath because he really does some good things and has a teeny bit of compassion. But its so ALL ABOUT HIM.
Can I suggest "HEALING FROM HIM"? 'Get it out girl' is awful close to Dont Date Him Girl and Tasha Joseph's (owner) husband is an attorney. (hint hint)

Thanks Barbara!
March 26, 2009 - 7:28pm — Lisa E. ScottThat's great, Barbara! You would be perfect for writing a weekly column! You have such good advice. "Healing From Him" is good, but I still like "Get It Out Girl." I don't think it's too close to "Don't Hate Him Girl." The messages are totally different. I'm saying "you gotta get it out" and she's saying "to forgive."
I'm so psyched that you're interested in contributing. I will set up our conference call soon, ladies! This is going to be great. I can't tell you how excited I am!

March 26, 2009 - 2:41am — ms_jeevesWHAT a fabulous idea. FABULOUS. Count me in! Please! :-)
I love your "style" of approaching things with humor.... I believe strongly in the power of humor and think that it can be very powerful at reaching people and not turning them off.
I love the idea of brainstorming on a conference call. I'll watch for your plans on this. I'm not sure I'll be able to participate because of the time difference and because I have to travel back to the mainland soon... which will involve a LONG time on airplanes :-) but I certainly want to know more about this.
For me, "publicizing my experience" has really been limited to keeping a blog that seems to have only one reader: my ex's sister. I would like to be more effective.

Is there a good time you can suggest that would be a reasonable hour here and where you're at to do the call? I'd like to work around your schedule if possible.
I can help you

Ideas for name of our show
March 26, 2009 - 10:01am — Lisa E. ScottI'm so glad some of you are interested in working with me on a show. I'll get a conference call lined up soon and post details!
So, I like "Get It Out Girl" as a name for our show and I bought the domain name, but I'd love to get your thoughts on other ideas. It was only $9.99 so I'm not attached to it or anything.
I did just purchase the domain name:
www.allabouthim.com for a hefty price tag so maybe we should use this. We don't have to though because I can just use it for the book website. I would essentially make www.allabouthim.com and www.lisaescott.com one and the same.
But for the show, I'd love some ideas. Something funny would be great and would depict what we're trying to do - educate and build awareness while using humor to heal. So here are my initial ideas and I would love to hear yours!
Get It Out Girl
All About Him
NarcTalk
?????
Thanks!
Lisa
great ideas....
March 26, 2009 - 9:59am — sashainesLisa, I love your idea(s) re: talking forums etc... yet must admit I find it amusingly ironic and funny that you plan to put one of the many Trump Towers in the middle of your studio background..... in NYC, you can't turn a corner without seeing yet another building with this Narc's name on it!!!! Maybe you can use it in your show?
Thanks again for being here!.... Sas
Sashaines
March 26, 2009 - 11:05am — Lisa E. ScottYes, isn't that appropriate? The Trump Tower within view. He is the quintessential narcissist!
Actually, the building itself doesn't even look that good right now because they ran out of money and have yet to finish the very top of the building. The bottom floors are occupied and doing business, but the very top is still not finished. So at night, which is when I would do the show, it doesn't fully light up or anything.
Writer/Marketer
March 26, 2009 - 12:25pm — GhostBusterHi Lisa. What a fabulous idea!!! I'm a writer working in marketing, so I'd be happy to help, contribute or help with press releases/publicity to build audience or try to pitch an idea to Oprah.
Oh, and I've been told I have quite the irreverent sense of humor...so if I think of any good jokes, one-liners or generally snarky remarks (they come so easy when you loved a narcissist!), I'd love to share. :)
Another potential URL: NarcsBeGone
Wow, isn't it interesting
March 27, 2009 - 9:18am — better offWow, isn't it interesting how similar we are...really, with writing/marketing, etc...expressive people. And a mental health counselor too...how like...everyone in the book Women Who Love Psychopaths!! Freaky.
The only problem I have with names like Narcsbegone, etc...is to us, we automatically think Narcissist when we read "Narc" but for the rest of the world the first thing that comes to mind is narcotics. Although a narcissist is quite like a narcotic, lol.
Barbara & Betteroff
March 27, 2009 - 11:54pm — Lisa E. ScottThanks for your thoughts on the name. Sorry for the delay in responding, but I've been in the studio all day. My CD, "Gotta Get It Out" is almost done!!!! Hmmm, maybe I'll go check and see if that domain name is available. What do you think? I'm going to play around on GoDaddy and come up with some more ideas. I agree with you, Betteroff, that while I like NarcNoMore, people might think of narcotics, but heck, it's all an addiction, isn't it? :)
We might get Donald Trump though. :) Actually, one of the first people I'm going to book for an interview is former Governor of Illinois, Rod Blagojevich. It may seem like a lofty goal, but think about it. He would eat it up!
Right on target!
March 27, 2009 - 9:58am — Barbara (not verified)Wow, isn't it interesting how similar we are...really, with writing/marketing, etc...expressive people. And a mental health counselor too...how like...everyone in the book Women Who Love Psychopaths!! Freaky.
It's not freaky - its right on about WHO THESE CRETINS TARGET.
Us! The best of the best! That's who they like to tear down, rip apart and manipulate. Why manipulate and hurt a low life? what's the fun in that... if you're a Narc?
That's exactly WHY I highly recommend that book to EVERYONE who was ever involved with an N or P. It's mind blowingly validating. That book should be handed to girls in high school as required reading, IMHO.
